In need of a complete exhaust system! Please help!

Hi everyone!

I just wanted to thank all of you for giving me the neccesary help and knowledge needed solving my situation!
These few weeks have been a heck of a rollercoaster and I am truly greatful to this forum!

Thanks to @Menno the front part of the exhaust is now on its way from the Netherlands,
and @dieselfan for sending me the list of alternative suppliers on mufflers, the muffler has now been ordered from Germany,
though at a higher price than expected (what to do when it's only available from two sellers?),
@Robin_Cox for confirming the three bolted gasket (it help steer me into the right direction),
@Edwrai for giving the knowledge of car parts drawings often being illustrations, not neccesarily the exact part IRL,
and last but not least @putyourmittenson for the initial reply (I was impressed over the enthusiasm in this forum as I have never been in one).

I will post an update once the parts have all arrived, and hopefully post a few pictures of the process (custom fitting by welding will be required) if the mechanic would allow me in there with him.
Norway is a stickler for rules, and work regulations are very strict here; I visited an oil company few years ago and was mandated to take a safety course before I could walk in the office building without being monitored.

I have really learned a lot from you all as you have given me new tools which I will bring to good use in the future.
Hope to write to you guys again soon!

Good to hear that you soon will be on the road again.
It is a very special situation you have ended up in.
Have you managed to source the brackets ?

Good luck ?

Thank you very much!
According to the mechanic, the parts required at the moment is the two piece exhaust with its corresponding mounting hardware.
I have ordered the rubber suspension rings(?), front pipe gasket, pipe clamp, nuts and bolts from autodoc.
Once the exhaust parts arrive, exhaust tubing will be aquired and bent so the exhaust can be welded and fitted.
An MOT will then be scheduled and finally the license plates can be printed!
Hoping for smooth sailing!

Do you still have item 6, 11 and 12 on picture #1

and item 6 on picture #2 still on the car?

All these parts are needed to complete the assembly, so it is good to be sure before you get the big parts...
I consider all of them as "difficult to find at biltema"...

cheers

Hi!
I'm hoping that part 11 & 12 from picture #1 and part 6 from picture #2 is still mounted on the car.
But I will check it out on Sunday when I'm off from work.
I work about 10 hours a day, so there is not much time left in the evenings.
About part 6 in picture #1, I found a rubber mount from the OEM number. See the picture attached.
Is it the correct part?
Thank you for the follow up!

@Menno , the mechanic I had working on the car just closed up shop without informing me.
Instead of just letting me know he just told me repeatedly that the car soon would be done.
I went over to his garage and saw that he hadn't even done anything work on it.
You could say that I was disappointed. Something didn't feel right.
In fear of having my car chopped and sold for parts I towed my car over to another location, where a friend of my brother now is taking care of the job.
He just managed today to remove the corroded and broken bolts from the exhaust cooler without damaging the engine block.
However, a new situation has stopped the operation; the exhaust cooler I previously bought as the replacement part has gone missing.
The last time I saw it was when I delivered it to the Audi dealership. I'm guessing it's too late to do anything about that now.
I've searched high and low on the internet for this exhaust cooler without any results on second hand ones.
Does anyone here have an exhaust cooler for sale?
Parts number 045131513K.

I dont know if they can help, but I have had recent success shopping for rare A2 parts at oemvwshop.com in Bratislava.
Their shipping costs are reasonable and parcel tracking comms are excellent.
Well worth a look.

Hi everyone!

Due to an extreme work load it's been a while since my last post.
Sorry about that!

So I ended up purchasing an exhaust cooler from the Audi dealership, as none were to be found on the second hand market.
Cost about 800 pounds...
And as everybody knows more issues are normally found when working on cars;
-cable connectors to the gear box needed ajustment
-hand brake wire needed ajustment
-headlight needed replacement

This is now complete, and my car is now sitting at the Audi dealership and not in my drive way.
The reason is that a new issue was found; the climate control unit stopped working.
In order to get the number plates back on my car, the car needs to go through a mandatory inspection.
The climate control unit not working is a safety issue, as it makes it impossible to de-ice the car during winter season, or remove moisture (?) from the windows when fogged up.

Does anyone here have a climate control unit for sale?
Part number 8Z0 820 043G
Or does anyone here know if these units are interchangeable?
I've found several units on the second hand market, but with different letters on the end of the part number.

Thank you!

That part number seems to be a climate control unit for double-DIN A2's with heated seats. They're like gold dust in this country .

But the good news is that the only difference between the various A2 climate controls is the fascia. They all have the same body behind it, with the same circuitry inside and the same connections on the back. The seat heater roller switches are separate clip-in items, and body will have the spaces for them even if the fascia doesn't have the holes for them.

So you can happily buy any other A2 climate control and swap the fascia over with your existing one, clip in your seat heater controls and away you go. You should only need a Torx T6 screwdriver to do this once you've got your existing climate panel out.

Thank you very much for the quick reply!
As I do not know much about electronic components, I was afraid there might be a coding issue; being parts not communicating.
This certainly makes the job much easier, as I only need a part with the same facia.
According to web searches I've done, there are two or three models I can use, only separated by the last letter in the part number.
Thanks for great information!

You only need a part with the same body :) You want to keep your current fascia and put it on a body with working circuitry inside.

Now I remember also that you will have to remove a circuit board from the back of the fascia but again, that's just screws, you don't have to touch any electrical connections. That circuit board remains connected to the body of your current climate unit. Then you attach the same circuit board which is connected to the new body, and screw your fascia (complete with circuit board) onto the front of the new body.

I find it really strange how the A2 has a different intake position between LHD and RHD models, cant think of any other car that does that (not an expert on this thou)

Hi everyone!
I finally got my car through the inspection!
Thank you all for great help!

I swapped the internals on the climate unit; worked like a charm!

However, there's always a "however", all of a sudden I had some electrical issues as the rear speakers would buzz even with the keys out of the ignition. Sounded like a faulty supercharger while driving, as the buzzing noise increased with the rpm's.
I solved it temporarily by disconnecting the amplifier under the floor on the passenger side. This will be adressed some time in the future.

One more thing:
The coupling on the slave cylinder decided to de-couple while driving.
I did not know what had happened at the time, so i towed the car back to the Audi dealership.
They quoted cirka 700 pounds for a new slave cylinder and connecting hose.
I quickly got my car back home, driving it clutch less (not recommended).
Removing the bonnet I located the slave cylinder coupling and found that the locking pin on the connector hose had gone soft (?),
so I just bent it a little bit and snapped it back on. It seems like it was all it took.

I don't know if the Audi dealer was trying to rip me off by not trying to fix the locking pin, or if they sincerely mean that these parts need to be replaced. Only time will tell.

As you can see from the picture I have also got a new set of wheels!
OEM BBS alloys for the VW Polo Cross.
100 pounds for the alloys, and some more for the tires (Falken Ziex ZE310EC).
I found the info on wheels from this forum (great thread), and got some help from a member here.

Hopefully she will now stay on the road for years to come!

From all my heart: Thank you all!
