Indicators not working

Having to use hand signals at the moment as my indicators are on the blink.
When you use the stalk they work for about a second or not at all. Bulbs seem fine and the 'Hazards' work fine. This happend months ago but seemed to fix itself. Any thoughts before I take it to Audi.

Hi Steve,

Sorry to hear that you are having problems mate.:(

I am no electrical genius, but I don't suppose that it could be something simple like a fuse on its way out? (Have you checked!!).

Doesn't sound like faulty wiring, but I guess it could be relay related or something similar!!

Wish I could be of more assistance and I hope that you get the problem rectified soon. (It can't be much fun doing that "right turn Clyde" stuff!!).

Regards,

Darren

Ei indicators

Thanks for the advice eveyone. Think it sounds like the flasher unit. Will pop down to my friendly Audi dealer tomorrow for a new unit.

:p Darren, nearly knocked myself out going round an island!!!

yep its the flasher relay that needs replacing. when you use the hazard lights you pull double the current through the relay as you are lighting 6 bulbs. when using the indicators you pull less current cause you are only lighting 3 bulbs had the same problem flasher unit changed now all ok

Hi Steve,

Have you had any joy with the indicator fault and if so was it the flasher unit as suggested or a dodgy relay?

Whichever; hope the fault is resolved and you have finally been able to give up those hand signals whilst driving… no, not those ones… the official turn signals. LOL!!:D

Darren

Wonkey Winkers

;) Hi Darren,

Resting arms this week! I was getting weird hand signals back!

Going to fit the new signal relay on Saturday. This cost £25.00 from Audi! Should have tried Vagparts. (£13)

Bought the radio keys and the Audi Ipod kit from Vagparts as I may as well fit this at the same time. I'll buy a workshop cd from skipton to aid fitting.

Thanks to everyone for the help. Its like being in a big family!!:)

Hi Steve,

Glad to hear that you have identified the offending item and your indicators will hopefully be back to full working order after this weekend :) - shame about vagparts, you would have saved a tidy sum.:(

It will be interesting to see your ipod kit in action on the 26th. Although I have the 'cheap and cheerful' transmitter, it does not charge the ipod. After our conversation on the subject at Castle Combe, I must admit I am intrigued. The only thing is that I have the 'nano'; does the ipod kit work with this?

Looking forward to the 26th.

Regards,

Darren

Hi Darren,

I have a nano too so if I get it up and runnig you are more than welcome to have a look.

Looking forward to the 26th also. Deb bought me a book in the summer about the Vulcan jet that bombed Stanley airfield during the Falklands War. Great book, great jet.

Steve

Must be a common situation, because I have exactly the same problem, also with a 2001 TDi.
Now, what's not clear: is the price (and part number 8Z0 etc) mentioned that of the whole flasher unit, that can be installed by simple replacing (and not the soldering stuff explained in the link)?
Moreover, VAG parts doesn't seem to have it? So I can only get hold of it at the friendly dealer's?

Hi Werner,

The part I have seems to be the complete unit obtained from an Audi dealer.
I'm suprised Vagparts can't supply it.

Steve

Hi Werner,

I telephoned them to enquire about the Ipod adaptor and asked them about the price of the flasher unit.

Regards

Steve
