I am bidding for an original A2 instrument surround with chrome rings currently offered on the ebay auction site under my ID craigblumus. If I can get it for a sensible price I will then offer it to members at cost plus a contribution to the club. I do not need this part myself as I have an SE.

Obviously it would be helpful if members do not bid against me !-)

Another instrument surround with chrome rings is on ebay Germany, and also a complete instrument unit with chrome rings out of a petrol car with DIS, but km only on the speedometer. I understand from an Audi parts man who knew immediately what I was talking about that the black fascia panel with rings (which is what people want) separates easily from the printed circuit panel with guages. I do not know at this stage if the instruments themselves separate from the printed circuit panel. I know that the black fascia panel is not available separately.

If you are interested in having a black fascia panel please say here in the next 2-3 days what you would be willing to pay. The seller tells me postage will be 19 Euros extra - about £12. Please reckon also with a contribution to the A2OC, which is why I am willing to do the business (in German.) I am looking to make nothing for myself out of this, and do not want to lay out too much money for it if no one is interested at this point.

I still believe these fascia panels rarely come on the market. They only come from crashed cars or when Audi dealers put exchange instrument panels into cars fitted in the factory with no-rings fascia panels.

In the past, lurkers on this forum have seemed quite interested in the idea of adding the SE dashboard to early standard model A2's. Because no one has responded to my previous post I assume there is little interest in instrument panel fascias with aluminium rings at present. I have not bid on these items on ebay today. For your information the complete instrument unit with aluminium rings for a petrol car with DIS display went for 100EUR and the instrument panel fascia on its own went for 77.21EUR.

I think this thread could be closed.

Chivers

I hear your dissapointment!

I know some people have expressed an interest in the past but I don't know why no one now has come forward.

Guys-is there a reason why no one has come forward-are you scared of having to fit the items, don't like buying off Ebay, etc etc.

Tell us, please, Chivers has done his best to help and some feedback-good or bad-would be welcome!

Cheers

Hey Chivers, I think it was most excellent of you to go to the effort of trying to source this for members here. I would have been interested had I not already got the ringed dash! However, If I had not I would definetely be at a loss of how to fit the thing! But then I am a pansy when it comes to fiddling with cars...

oh Chivers! I'm on here too late. Just missed it! I was very interested in finding that! I've asked around, the chrome bits in the aluminum pack can't really be ordered individually. But I would have no idea how to fix that dash plate myself. Neither will I find the aluminum bits on the door handle (or order the whole new inside door panel with the aluminum strip).

Anyway, its great work you mentioned it on the forum! Thanks!

I was indeed one of the 'keen' people to get the rings put on our first A2 !

However this was a while ago (2 years ?) and we took the easy (but expensive) option and bought a new A2 ;) complete with everything at the end of 2002.

If I still had the old A2 I'd have been right behind you !

I'm also very keen to get the rings on my car and have had several email correspondences with Tachoringe (http://www.tachoringe.de/default.html) to try to persuade them to make them as an aftermarket accessory for the A2, but unfortunately I have had no luck.

I'll email them one last time to see if they have any plans to produce them.

Stuart,

Are they the OE manufacturer to AUDI? From my previous experience, if this is so, then they cant decide to do this without AUDI permission. AUDI will own the tools and design; if AUDI do decide to supply it as a unique spare then only the approved aftermarket parts supplier will be able to supply it.

I've had a brief email conversation with Tachoringe over the past few days and they have said they can made some aluminium style rings similar to the ones they currently make for the Alfa 147 as shown in the photo below...

The 4 piece set for the A2 would be around €45.00 or around €35.00 for a group-buy (minimum is 15 people).

I'll probably go for it. Let me know if you're interested and I'll start a list for a group-buy.
