Are there any specialist insurance companies for the A2. I have a 1.6 FSI in very good condition and would like to see if it's possible to insure it as a classic car.
Thanks

I found there were a few companies that would accept it as a classic car, but Adrian flux still came out cheaper overall. They do agreed valuation as well if that’s what you want.

Tried that got a "great quote" apparently for over a grand!!
Confused Insured on brand new policy for just over £200 with £20 voucher which I used in Halfords to pay towards the timing belt kit!

Insurance is a very personal subject by its very nature - most folk just want to be legal for the lowest amount of £ - which is how the comparison site industry is therefore geared and is fine if you’re not emotionally attached to your A2 and are happy for it to be written off if it gets even slightly damaged - as to underwriters competing on price it’s simply not worth them bothering with a few £100 on repairing old cars.

I think most of us on here would like a more sympathetic underwriter however as the cars age and have made the transition in attitude towards them as being modern classics to be preserved rather than just old cars. Therefore we should be prepared to pay a little more for insurance cover that reflects this.

I’m insured through Adrian Flux as there aren’t (m)any other brokers I could find who work with underwriters willing to offer agreed value policies for modified cars with business use - which is what I needed. Luckily overall they are decent to deal with - something that was put to the rest recently when I had an own-fault bump in Audrey: Very simple process to claim and the underwriter has been similarly straightforward / brilliant to deal with.

Based on insurance being one of those things that you buy and hope to never need - and if you do you just want the process over quickly and easily - I can recommend Adrian Flux.

That said, I’d be interested to know if anyone else with a remapped / otherwise modified TDI has found another good supplier of insurance for their car with business use - I always like to have more than one option!

Admiral multicar. No agreed value though and very much hit and miss customer service

Yeah In my case I wanted it as cheap as possible with half decent terms but value around £800 which is still more than I paid but would struggle to replace fir that amount
