Interior Decorating

A very neat job, well done!

Mind you it would do my head in there. Looks a bit clumpy for my liking, and would get in the way of my sun visor, as I have to either slightly bring it down, or flip it right back towards the screen. Otherwise, it blocks my view of the road if its straight down, as Im quite tall!!

But a good job, and if its ok for you, thats all that matters! I ruined my light panel, as one of the small silver clips snapped off last time I was checking the sunroof system, so can move my light pannel out anymore. Anyone else thinking of doing simlat should take care!!

Hi Alco

Nice mod. For info, if you need to trace the positive wire for the light cluster back I think you'll find it's connected to the Central Conveinience Unit...one of my posts tells you which wire from the 5 connectors to look for. (Hopefully the sat nav unit wont draw too much current)

Had a read of your experience there Troy, what a harrowing one it was!

I've not poked at the CCCU, but I know the colouring of the wiring that feed the center light cluster.
On a side note, you noted that the output of the +12v wasn't +12v, but roughly 1/3 that. I've noticed similar, however only once the auto-off has kicked in and the ignition has been switched off completely.
i.e. Lights on and/or ignition on, the main feed is +12v (or near enough).
Lights off and ignition off, the main feed is approx +3 to +4v.
I can only assume as the center light cluster runs on a switched positive circuit, when you actually turn one of the lights on, the voltage is increased when the CCCU detects an increase in current (note: this is deductive reasoning, I actually have no idea how it works).

As for my sat-nag, it draws 1A max. I'm hoping its LiIon battery doesn't actually draw that kind of current as it's fully charged most of the time. And being such a tiny battery compared to most mobile devices these days (only 1250mAh), the maximum current draw will be done when the center light cluster isn't actually doing anything anyway!
Does my logic work, or am I a walking genius?

I think the lights are on a switched circuit of some form / increased current ciruit, as when doing the Kerb lighting / footwell lighting mod you have to put a diode between the lights and the CCCU to prevent them from coming on when the interior lights are turned on.

I.E they will only come on when key is removed from ignition, doors opened or car unlocked etc.

There is a double brown / white wire that goes into the CCCU from the interior lights, which is the ground and + comes from a red/orange wire.
