Interior Map Light Cluster Wiring Diagram

Anyone know where I can get a wiring diagram for the interior map light cluster without OSS? (I don't have access to Elsawin unfortunately)

No...no problem. Not yet anyway:eek: Looking at the possibility of adding some ambient down lighting as seen in various other VAG models by way of a couple of red led's mounted in the map light cluster. Anyone got any ideas on this?? I assume it has been done before?

Mick

It certainly has been done. Skipton's done this for his car and also installed it in Mustang-Owner's car. They come on with the side-lights.

The buttons light up when you turn the side-lights on. Simply tap into that 12V feed. Simple indeed.

All sorted. Thanks to all who replied. Managed to find the post by Mike Hill (Skipton) that gave the colours of the wires to connect to in the cluster. His post made it so simple even I could do it. I hope he doesn't stay away too long as I have always found his input helpful & uintimidating.

Bought a second hand light cluster of the Web so if I made a mess I could always reinstate my original. Hopefully pic shows light cluster with two 5mm leds originally installed. I wasn't happy with these as they were too intrusive in my eyeline & also lit up the handbrake (not the effect I was after). So I tried 3 inside the diffuser which now gives a lovely warm glow to the interior.

I just did the same mod to my lights, but I fitted them at the ends of the middle light.

High bright clear LEDs that are red.

Just a question - does it make it harder to see out of the internal rear view mirror at night with these extra interior LEDs?

I'm not sure Dan, but people who wear glasses find that the reflective and refractive effects of their lenses can cause issues.

Indeed. I wear glasses and I have replaced the light unit Mike prepared for me with an original one without the LED's.
I found the glare to be very off-putting while driving at night. I did try to fit a "visor" to the light unit so I didn't suffer with direct glare, but it didn't look nice.

On well lit roads, where you know exactly where you’re going, it’s not a problem, but when driving on roads you don’t know without street lighting, the mod makes navigation more stressful than it should be.

The only way I could make the unit usable for me was to dim the interior lighting very low, and this wasn't achieving the result I wanted.

I very much like the look of my unit at night, when standing outside the car looking in, but it's just not practical for me as is.
At some point I will find a solution and refit it.

Cheers

I can't say it bothers me at all. It did when I had the two leds poking through the actual body of the unit as can be seen from my photos, but now I have them mounted within the unit behind the diffuser it doesn't hamper my vision at all. But I am not a spectacle wearer..
Mine aren't the super bright ones that I think Craig has fitted.

Cheers
