Interior Steam Clean

Hi everyone

the time has come to give the interior a deep clean, has anyone had their interior steam cleaned ?

Can you offer me any tips and an idea of how much it may cost.......

Many thanks in anticipation

What colour is your interior and how badly soiled is it?

We have one of those home '9 in 1' steam cleaners and I used it to clean the rear carpet when my daughter spilled something on the floor.

Serious pong!

It came up a treat after a few scrubbing sessions then drying everything off with a towel. I did this with all the doors and tailgate open as I was concerned about steam affecting the electrics somehow.

My local valet shop charge 35 quid for a full interior valet but I think they use a shampoo machine. That should also achieve good results unless the interior is really bad.

If you don't mind the graft and have space to do it I would consider buying a steam machine ( mine is a Morphy Richards and cost 80 quid. )

+1 on the steam cleaners, not the extraction shampoo type that most valeting company's tend to use, i'm doing mine shortly but seats and carpets are being removed from the car prior to this.

hi Murdo

there are some stains on the seats from attempts at cleaning kids drinks spills and just a build up of grime over the years, it is the black cloth Sport interior.

Same as mine used to be then before it inherited leather. That should clean up nicely. Just follow the caution from Spike and you'll be right. Looks lovely when you first get it cleaned. Our car wasn't too bad when we bought it but I did a full interior shampoo before ADI 2009 and it made quite a difference.

spot cleaning doesn't work on this fabric as it causes tide marks. You need to do the whole seat. If you're not confident in having a go leave it to a professional. I can't see it being more than 50 quid but like all things shop around.

Thanks Murdo

I'll wait for some warm weather and give it a go with shampoo, I must admit Spike's post certainly made me think twice about steam cleaning the interior could be more trouble than its worth

I just hire out a Rug Doctor machine from Homebase. It's upholstery tool is most effective! Have treated Alison to this twice- Platinum cloth- and she comes up really well! I would highly recommend the spot cleaner and anti foam. Enough for thee treatments!

I'm gonna give our interior (light blue matrix cloth) a proper going over with the furniture attachment on a Bissell carpet cleaner soon. I think I'll not do this on the carpet as it can be quite water-intensive.

Looks like you have the same colour car an interior as me, can't stand the colour outside or in :0)

Outside's OK but I don't know what the previous owners were thinking when they ordered this upholstery as an optional extra! They paid for it! The standard blue is much better, black leather would be my ultimate choice. I've been on the lookout for some blue seats but as I've got electric lumbar, it's a needle/haystack job.

It's the Bissell cleaner with the upholstery attachment I used to have and didn't find it too water intensive as the water is effectively vacuumed out at the point of washing. Yes it's left a bit damp but I used to treat one section at a time and as soon as I was finished I'd effectively blot the area with a dry towel. ( one that doesn't shed it's fibres readily)

On a nice day with the car well ventilated it was dry by the following day and the task can be completed with a vacuum to bring the pile back up on the carpets.
