intermitent electrical fault

hi can anyone help.... :)

recently having strange electrical problems , been to the garage had a laptop pluged in to it £100 computer says no. the fault is ABS traction control oil warning lights come on, and alarms, power stearing turns off and car dies. it also strugles to start sometimes when warning light are on, it seems to do it when we have heavy rain or when the car has been jet washed ( maybe water getting in to electrics casuing short ?) had RAC out a couple of times one said alternator, another said bad earth but this was befor i figured it could be the rain. any help would be grateful , is doing my head in fingers crossed..

Have you check if there is water ingress to the passenger footwell by lifting the carpet and lifting the hatch cover? Also whereabouts in the country are you?

How old is your battery

Hi Guyguerilla,

Does your car still have the original battery in the rear?

John.

hey peeps guick reply as iam spose to be on my way to work ,
no there isnt water in the foot well this happens when the car isnt moving
and iam in the south east uk

and as for the battery i havnt a clue if its the original but it has been tested and is charging fine , seems a few other a2 owners are having the exact same problem in the forum as me and have discovered it to be a sensor , need to get it back to the garage and insist on plugging it in again i spose grrrr:mad:

Why dont you pick up one of those diagnostic kits that are doin the rounds for £50 - £100 argos do one for £90 I think.Dont know if they are any good but its got to be worth a try rather than £100 a time at the garage for diagnostics. It would let you get a readout real time with the the car at the door.

I got a simple VAG Code reader off Ebay for £20 - if all you want to do is scan the ECU for error codes that's the cheapest option!

I'd say perhaps the battery is on the blink, or perhaps the ABS sensor is faulty, and perhaps your Central Convenience Unit is having a fit as well. But that's all just guessing.

update

hi peeps got myself a cheap vag com etc and scanned for faults , first run through and i get ( see pic ) as most know the cheap vag only comes with sharware vag com so its not giving the full monty but its a start i spose , any help with the code would be apreciated :)

I have found dampness here, anyone and ideas as to where it comes in ? it's clean so must be from above ie no dirt / mud

behind the glovebox. Take it out and check. I know there's a big grommet there on the LHD cars, I think there's one on both sides.
