Intermittent Boot Lock Dink

I have searched the forums as best as I can but couldn't find the "Dink".

I have recently replaced my boots innards after a major paint spill.
However, intermittently when I press my boot panel (Above vrm) I hear two slight "dinking" sounds, then the boot does not unlock, and at times had to revert to emergency court release near window. Then on occasions the boot doesn't lock correctly when pulled down, and locks in part opened position then showing open on dashboard display.

Looking at forums I intend to remove inner tailgate panel and see if any rods are loose, switches not working etc and see if I can diagnose the fault, just wanted to ask does the "dink" point to any fault directly?.

"dink" I suspect is the solenoid retracting in the tail gate. There is a good chance either the keyhole plastic connector has popped off the rod or it has broken. You will need to remove the internal trim panel to check and reclip or replace. The solenoid itself could be on its last legs if the the rod is still connected.

I have this morning removed the inner back tailgate panel plus the lower panel that goes around the strike plate and investigated.

1) Sitting in the back of the car facing the inside of the tailgate, opening and closing the door slowly I saw that the U shaped strike lock plate that received the lock was out of line. LOOSENED THE BOLTS EITHER SIDE, MOVED PLATE WITHIN THE GUIDE MARKINGS, LOCK ENGAGED, WITH DOOR DO DOWN I TIGHTENED THE BOLTS. DOOR NOW CLOSES CORRECTLY AND DOES NOT SHOW OPEN ON DASH WHEN DOOR CLOSED.

2) Pressing the middle button on the fob unlocked the boot with no issue, the white inner boot arm gismo all in order back and forth, however pressing the pad between the number plate lights to open the boot created the dink sound and what sounded like the arm gismo struggling.
Suspect this is faulty not sending enough energy to the gismo arm thingy. Attached a photo of the part I require, and ask anyone, has anyone the part to sell and should there be screws in the holes either side of it?

The screws either side should be there. They basically hold the number plate panel in place along with plastic rivets and sticky pads. At some point they may have been dremmled out, possibly due to rust issues, in order to remove the panel and gain access to the number plate light fittings.

The screws are 0.38p for two from Crewe Audi and worth replacing.

Thankyou for the reply, maybe answering my own question "Crewe Audi" is that a main Audi Dealer?

They are..... Tom who works in the parts dept is a member here but it may be quicker just to give him a ring. Hopefully he will be able to get them posted out to you fairly quickly.
