Intermittent Power Loss - CURED !!!!!!!

If like me you have been cursed with the issue of intermittent power loss I have an answer which has fixed the problem.

The car had been deteriorating for the past year but had recently become very unreliable with distance between failures down to 100yards !!! I just turned the ignition off for 5-10 seconds and restarted and away we went so I thought it was an electrical problem.

I read through the links I could find on this subject and did the suggested work – Checked the vacuum/supply pipes, changed the fuel filter, fitted new MAF sensor…..No change – still conking out on me.
The MAF sensor was probably a waste of money (about £80).

I also saw a note regarding the intercooler failing and was suspicious this could be a factor in it all as it looked decidedly ropey at the bottom end and I decided to swap it out for a new one.

The swap-out is complete (posted a feedback note on this elsewhere) and it has fixed the problem.

Been running the car for nearly three weeks and it has not missed beat

How does the car go now ?? – brilliant, noticeably better at low speed, torque and pick-up are much improved – well worth doing as I was seriously considering getting rid of it – all sins forgiven.

Hope this helps you if you have the same problem.

Glad to hear you got it sorted. Those intercoolers seem to blow quite often. What make of intercooler did you get?

I got it from Advanced Radiators - Newcastle area I think. No complaints at all about the service I just bought the wrong part - should have measured it all up first.
