Introduction :)

Hi everyone,

I have just purchased and picked up my very first Audi A2 (2002) model and she is a stunner :0)
I am living in Manor Park / Ilford and wanting to take her to a mechanic to get a once over, can anyone recommend a mechanic near me?

Also i'm wanting to upgrade the current stereo so I can play music through my phone (connected to the speakers), does anyone have any suggestions of the type /brand of connector that I need to by?

Many thanks :)

Sarah

Welcome to the forum and community Sarah. Pictures a must. :D

A2 Cars in Milton Keynes is a doable drive for you; circa an hour and a half. They specialise in the A2 (hence the name). They have a website with full details too.

We have an active social scene; next meeting at Duxford on 25th September if you can make it. Check out the calendar and socials planned.

Cheers,

Darren

Sarah,
I assume that you have the original Concert stereo head unit (single CD unit with a knob on both sides)
There are a few options, some that use the CD changer connector, this will get you a 3.5mm audio input (head phone socket), so you can then connect this to your phone.
You could then add a Blue Tooth unit to this to allow your phone to transmit to the BT unit which then feeds its output to the CD changer connector.

The unit that connects to the CD Changer connector is about £70, the BT unit is about £10 This will give the best audio quality

Alternative is to change the head unit (stereo) for an after market unit that supports Aux in via 3.5mm connector and/or bluetooth, there are some cheap Chinese unit on Ebay and Amazon for about £25 - quality unknown. You will also need a fascia plate as the standard stereo is wider than the aftermarket units (only the face of the unit is different, the body is a standard DIN size)

Other alternative is a bluetooth FM transmitter, it will plug into the cigarette lighter socket and receive music from your phone and then transmit it to the head unit on the FM radio band. You tune the unit to an unused station in the FM radio band. This can be tricky to find a station that is not used in built up areas and is also liable to become a used station as you drive around the country. These units are around £7 and is the solution that I have used very successfully in my wife's A2. The sound quality is nearly as good as the above methods, but not quite. Check out Banggood.com for FM BT units
You also get the added benefit that your phone now becomes connected via 'hand free' meaning that you can take a phone call, it will mute the music whilst the phone is in use, there is a microphone in the FM BT unit, but it did not really work well as the cigarette lighter socket is near your hip and therefore you are not talking into the microphone. I solved this my installing another cigarette lighter socket into a panel fitted into the cubby hole under the heater controls, the FM BT unit now fits into this new socket (which is switch on only when the key is in the ignition, so the FM BT unit can be left in the socket all the time)

Best of luck, let me know if you want links to anything

Cheers,
Paul (Depronman)

Hi, and welcome to the forum.

With regards to the stereo, if it is just to listen to music via blutooth the Flexsmart x3 in my opinion is the cheapest and best sound quality FM transmitter I have tested. (it is up in price on amazon I bought mine this year for £17.99 on sale)

https://www.amazon.co.uk/FlexSMART-...F8&qid=1472942356&sr=8-1&keywords=gogroove+x3

If you do wish to change the unit there are ISO adpaters for 3rd party stereos on Ebay such as this:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CT20AU01-...932251?hash=item2a2dace61b:g:~BAAAOxyKsZRs2go

Your stereo options will also depend whether you have a double or single din setup at the moment, as switching to the other is not as simple as previous cars I've had.

Hi Paul,
Thank you very much for all of this, I will have a look into it all. Ideally i would like to have bluetooth as you know the position of the charging point in the car isn't ideal with running a cable to the dashboard.

Cheers,
Sarah
