iPod holder location - best places?

I’m looking for input from the collective wise consciousness.

I have an aux in on my Concert 2 and like my iPod fixed onto the dash so I can see it as well as remove it for mobile operations.

I’ve tried a stick on magnet effort and a clips into the air vent affair. Neither is ideal - either coming unstuck or not being very secure.

I have a new mount which glues to the dash but I’m interested in WHERE people have stuck theirs (in the no -rude sense).

I’m favouring Just to the right of the Centre dash vents but it would be a bit obscured by the wheel.

Thoughts?

Ps. Bottom right of windscreen is my sat-Nav so it’s in use.

I think there could be a market for something designed to sit in one of the cup holders and support a phone/iPod. I'm imagining something like a fat disc, diameter similar to the base of the cupholder and maybe standing a cm or so proud of the holder, with a slot machined in it at an angle. It probably needs to be a bit more complex, maybe with support or a grip at the back or sides of the phone too, but that's the basic concept. I have neither the skills nor the tools to knock something up, but offer it as a suggestion if any members feel like having a play with the idea.

There used to be a "no holes" dashmount kit ( I have one). Try Googling for "audi a2 no holes dash mount 11007"

Thanks people. I have gone for a Scorshe (probably not spelled right) magnetic mount to try. I’m mounting it next to my climate controls where the left heated seat switch would be. Waiting for glue to cure and I’ll let you know.

Bargepower, my wife has the MPow magnet and it really works in her car. Seems a good call - if the Scorshe fails this is next.

Cheechy, the proclip sounds epic but I’m far too cheap!

Thanks all.

I have one of these holders that clips to the airvent.
I had it in my previous A2 which was t boned by a bin wagon, phone and holder never moved.
it has two sizes of grip to the vent, depending at which angle you install the clips. It's fully rotatable, too, and grips the phone well.
Plus, it's less than a tenner.

Wife uses something similar ($3 from Aliexpress)...

I would be doing the cup holder AKA Tom (Timmus) style, but updated for the lightening connector or maybe both 30 pin and lightening connector
I have been meaning to get to this upgrade as I'm sure other would like the same thing, plus it leaves one of the cup holders usable as a cup holder
I have a box of broken cup holder parts, will see what I can design over the next few days

Cheers,
Paul

The one I have isn’t magnetic, it has spring loaded rubber covered side grips. Works really well. I use a vent mount as I use my phone as a sat nav with TomTom Go software, so need it where I can glance at it.

No doubt you will come up with something Audi would be proud of.

I did murder a cup holder for parts to repair mine (it was already gravely ill; it was a mercy) and considered this but I figured I’d need 30 pin and lightning to make it work and previous charge mounts have required me to remove my case - which is not acceptable!

Looking forward to seeing what your devious mind comes up with.

How about a wireless charging adaptor for your phone, and a wireless charging car mount?
I have successfully used one of those on my iPhone 6s Plus with the case still on.

Will take a picture of my iPod install hopefully if I manage to get it done today. Currently at some jaguar experience thing but will get to work on the audio work this afternoon.... complete with custom made deproman parts :)

I only have an iPhone 5s! I like your thinking though.

I’ve stuck the magnet in. I think it looks good but we’ll see how it goes. The last one fell off after a couple of days!

I have moved the iPod down a bit lower since taking the photo. We’ll see how usable it is there.

Cheers for all the advice.

Looking good. If you are happy with the position and your holder keeps falling off you could consider bolting the holder to that part of the climate. From memory there is a void behind at the sides of the climate meant for the heated seat switches not present in your variant of the climate control.
