iPod installation

Apologies from a newbie if this has come up before....

As the proud owner of an A2 for a week I'm keen to get the Dension Ice Link Plus installed to link my 4G iPod to a concert cd player via its cd changer output.

Question is this...where's the best place for it?

A friend with an A4 has his mounted in the glovebox, which I really like as it's neatly out of the way and not on display...but does anyone know if there is room in an A2 glovebox for this (either in Densions cradle or just as an iPod socket)...it looks pretty cramped in there and I still want to use the glovebox for, well, gloves.

The alternative seems to be to fix it somewhere on the console with a brodit bracket, on display but could live with that...there seem to be 2 options here, either on the left of the concert/climate control, or further down on the console...where's best for minimal interferance with other controls/ergonomics?

Only other thought is that the flat top of the centre console looks to me like there could possibly be a removable panel option...is there some audi accessory option here?

In terms of fitting, as I am a duffer at such things and the fact that the panel gaps are tight due to excellent Audi build quality I was going to get someone else to do the installation. Independent Audi sparks are a bit expensive, anybody any experience of Halfords free fitting service...bit cautious as don't want a pristine interior monkeyed about with! Any other fitting suggestions?

All comments and help gratefully accepted!

Meanwhile getting into the joys of A2 transport...

Hello Zola and welcome to the wonderfull world of A2 ownership!

The glovebox is perfectly adequate for storing the iPod, with or without the active cradle. I have tried mine in there and in the other two places you mention.

I must say that I've found the lower console, by the gearstick to be the best option, in terms of control and ergonomics. As no track information, other than a number and track duration, is displayed on the headunit, I prefer to have the iPod in sight, so that I can see what's going on.

The mounting option higher up, nest to the headunit and climate controls is fine, but it does push out the panels a bit, which isn't the most aesthetically pleasing option.

If you can make it over the hills to Mossley, I will gladly fit the iPod for you, for a nominal fee. See feedback from other members here regarding my workmanship and experience of pulling A2s to bits and putting them back together again (with no screws left ovewr either!). I wouldn't trust Halfords one bit with my car.

You may also need to have the cd changer option enabled in your cars software, before you will be able to use the iPod. I can do this as well.

One last thing, Audi now offer an iPod interface, which is exactly the same as the Dension offering, although on start-up, the iPod displays the Audi logo. From memory, it is £180+VAT installed.

Hope this is of some use to you,

Cheers,

Mike

Thanks!

That's great information thanks!
I'll go with the Dension and order a brodit bracket for lower console by the gearstick...

And I'd love to take you up on the offer of fitting, can easily drive over, jsut let me know when it would be convenient!:D

Hi Zola, just let me know when's convenient for you. PM or email me and I'll return with my address. Fitting will be 20 minutes maximum, so when you get the Dension, let me know.

Also, don't bother ordering the Brodit Proclip - I have a console-mount one here unused which you can have for a tenner - better than the £20 they normally charge.

Take a look at www.ipodcarkitdirect.co.uk - they're who supplied my Dension system. They're very quick and good for backup should you need it - also offer free next day delivery.

Speak soon,

Mike

iPod

Brilliant! I shall order from ipodcarkitdirect (been looking at their site) and will take you up on the brodit. Will email deatials over the weekend!

iPod installed

Hi everyone,
just to let you know that my Dension iPod link and cradle is now fitted...while i watched (it looks straightfoward when done by someone who knows but hey there's no way I'd have tackled it!)...and it sounds great too....CD Changers are so last year!

Mounted on brodit bracket by gearlever...you can see whats playing, with the chorus head unit controlling it.
Thanks to Skipton01 for doing it, enjoyed it too!

This is how I mounted my IceLinkPlus:

The mount used was from either Brodit or Dashmount, I cannot remember, and is slipped in between the Air vents and the console (pull out Air vents, slip in mounting plate, and put air vent assembly back in)

Bye, Frido.

Hi Frido,

I've just been quoted nigh on 100 pounds to replace the driverside airvent (I broke the adjuster off with my knee!) and wonder if it's a part I could order and fit myself more cheaply...

Any instructions on how to fit it and the tools required would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

James

Thanks Spike - wouldn't describe myself as particularly handy with a spanner but it might well be worthwhile to contact Skipton re: manuals. :)
