Hello everyone,

I have recently bougth an A2 1.4 petrol from the year 2000 with some miles (it has 210k kms) and therefore joined the club of the A2 proud owners.
Everthing was going well with the car i must have done something like 150 km with it but yesterday i have noticed that when i Park the car it drips water from the front área between the front wheels (pictures atached). I am very worried it may be a head gasket problem, but i am not sure. I must say the the electric Windows have a erractic behaviour (sometimes they work sometimes they dont work) and therefore i always have the aircon on.

I have also.checked under the oil cap of the engine but found notinhg strange, neither the collant seems to be deceasing.

Só looking até the pictures what is your opinion? Should i be worried?

Thanks on advance. Regards

May be just condensate from the aircon. If you had a blown head gasket the cooling system would be pressurised and coolant level will fall.

Hi thanks for your answer. Regarding the coolant storage box, it looks like the cooler has boiled or something because the container its dirty of coolant on the walls up to the top, but i am not sure if its just messy container or if its that way because has boiled or something... The level is a Litlle above max and ir has not decreased but i have done very few kms with it (just about 150 km)
The temperature has not passed the 90°C and the oil does not seem to be contaminanted with collant...but i am not sure. It drips only water ir does not drip coolant or oil.

Thanks

I would also have suggested the air-con condensation - this drains at the rear of the engine, slightly on the (EU) driver side of the vehicle. When there is an undertray it will form a pool that then runs off when you manoeuvre the car at low speed, however I can't see an undertray on your car suggesting that this is draining directly from the a/c.

I would guess as suggested, that as you have your air con on all the time it will just be condensate from that, a surprising amount can drip out while the car is standing. I am having lots of coolant issues and it sounds as though yours is fine. The tanks will get dirty with age and if your level is good it won’t have boiled.

Hi Robin. thanks for your input. Further to the back there is a cover that seems to be a Litlle wet as well if you notice in this picture there is a darker área on the cover which is also wet dont know if it is the same problem related to the ac...

Thank you Froggy. Regards

It could be a few things, as others mentioned above, probably aircon.
That's a lot of leak in 1 day though, just in case ramp the car and see where is coming from. Check coolant level daily, you'll see if it changes and check the coolant hoses, one might leaking.
Or you could ask the seller, sure he knows what's going on.

Hi thanks for the input. Today i went for a small run with the car about 10 kms and it formed even a larger pool of water. If it is coming from the aircon would it do such a large pool of water? If it was losing coolant it wont drip water right? The only thing i have seen on the ground os water no sigma of coolant

Thanks

If it is the aircon, chances are it's leaking/damaged somewhere. Best is to have a look, what going on underneath, you probably gonna see the issue right away. Put the car on a ramp, or park half way on the sidewalk if you can, go underneath and see where it's leaking from. If you got bottom engine bay protector, you need to ramp the car to remove it properly. Also as I've mentioned, before, you'd ask the previous owner. If the issue appeared next day of purchase, he probably knew about it.
