Is it dead?

Hello all,

I hope you are all well.

I was the proud owner of an Audi A2 1.6 FSI until 2 years ago.

For the past 2 yrs the car has been nothing but trouble. I've taken it to 3 local mechanics who have run diagnostics and 'fixed' a whole host of issues but the car still has the same problem. The engine cuts out for absolutely no rhyme or reason, it also runs very roughly.

None of the mechanics I've taken it to can work out what the problem is and some have said it needs a new engine, scrap it! One mechanic managed to get it running for a few months until the issue started again.

The car has around 65K miles on the clock and used to drive like a dream until this issue started. It has been parked up since lockdown in March and I can't bear to drive it because it almost always breaks down and will take an hour or 2 before restarting and breaking down again.

Has anyone had this problem before? Is my car dead and never to be revived? Should I go ahead and scrap it?

Go here:
Find an A2OC member local to you, and get them to scan it for you. If you can find an FSI owner on the list, even better.
Please, don't give up on it, it needs, and deserves, a bit of FSI lurve.
Mac.

As Klynie has said we have an A2 experienced and trustworthy mechanic near Heathrow airport.
But I had a tdi that had those symptoms and it was a camshaft/crankshaft sensor. But Gary will be able to sort it for you at a very reasonable cost.

Cheers
Steve Birchall

Thank you @Birchall, @PlasticMac, @Kleynie you have given me hope. I love the car so much I hate to see it gathering dust outside my house. I may look into finding a member who may be able to run a scan but maybe the best thing is to take it to Gary. I'll happily transport it to the Heathrow area as that would probably as problematic as taking it to Walthamstow which is the nearest member to me who can scan for me.
I'm so grateful for the advice!

Give Gary a ring on 07958 326196 and see what he says. He is a friendly and helpful guy (I have no connection with Gary, other than being a VERY happy customer of his)

cheers

I can second Gary as a top A2 specialist. He has always serviced and fixed my car to the highest of standards and his mantra 'don't spend loads of money on it' is a breath of fresh air compared to some garages.
