Just one problem after another!

Hey guys

I have had a bit of bad luck these last couple of days with the car. Firstly I discovered that my dipstick was broken when I went to check the oil, so that set me back a fiver, which isnt too bad. I did complain at the audi garage in Leicester about the design of the dipstick and its build quality, he wasnt very interested, took my money and said goodbye!

Now today I went adjust the mirrors in my car and the actual joystick came off in my hand, I was so furious at first! Why is it one thing after another, but I have now calmed down and just have to accept that it has happened. So what has happened is that the joystick has snapped, there is no way i can just glue it back on so I guess I will have to take it into a garage. The Lions Garage in Leicester did my cambelt a few months ago and I was impressed with their service, so I will take it to them tomorrow they are an independent audi specialist.

Has anyone incurred this problem before?, do you know or guess what the cost may be? I reckon the whole switch will need replacing, meaning the armrest will need taking off.

Anyways I will let you know the results tomorrow, if anyone has any information I would much appreciate it!

Cheers

Yatin,

Worry ye not - it's certainly a bad run of luck, but I've not come across a snapped off mirror adjuster before.

Anyway, the price for a new one is £21.19, which doesn't exactly break the bank and, unless you're a complete no-hoper with the spanners, you can replace it yourself in about an hour.

Hi Mike

Thanks for the great instructions, im going to go buy the part today and attempt to fix it. I should be able to work it out! Just to clarify where it mentions about unfastening the clips -7- to release the door trim, do I just pull the trim or is there a technique to getting it off? I guess il find out when i do it!

Cheers

Never use excessive force to remove clips and sometimes, it helps to use a stiff plastic spatula or similar (you can actually buy specific trim removal tools), in addition to your fingers.

Door panel removal.

Hi Yatz, I had to remove my drivers side inner panel, to repair door 'strap' problem, so two things to watch out for:
1.have a piece of string handy (approx one metre length),you use this to support complete inner door panel when removed totally by hanging it onto top of alloy door.
2 Item 7 the clips as shown in dia' these on my car were two colours ie black/white each half, I had only 5/6 of these, so check around the door looking for the holes they click into.
You have to watch out for the clips coming out of door (both parts attached together!)
if so you have to seperate them and place each half back in its original position, if I remember correctly the 'black 'pieces go into the alloy door holes and 'white' pin piece into
door fabric panel (or possibly the other way around).
I actually pulled my panel off starting at bottom right side, they come out with loud clicking sound, just work your way around slowly and all should be fine. hope this is of some help for you, all the best, Alan.

Hi Mike and Alan

Thanks for the tips! I have successfully changed the switch. It was quite simple in the end, I guess once you have done its pretty straight-forward.

Cheers
