Keeping positive - COVID-19

Well here's a photo of my A2 FSI after a visit to Timmus just before the lock down, Sunderland point, Nr Heysham, lovely place and looking forward to returning as soon as we are allowed.
Keep safe everyone so we can all enjoy 'how we survived lock down' stories at future social events

A lovely photo. :)
The history of Sunderland Point (which is within walking distance of my house - at low tide!) was featured in a 30-minute BBC documentary recently. It's available to watch here: https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m000c7tl/villages-by-the-sea-sunderland-point

The concept is simple, post a photograph or two that generates fond memories for you, coupled with a line or two of text (if you wish). This can of course be a photograph of your A2, you and your A2 and/or an A2OC social event, but equally it can be an image of a happy place, a wedding photograph, family pictures or images of your pets for example. In essence something that bolsters your spirits and may equally do the same for others.
Right now, if we weren't in the midsts of a pandemic, I was supposed to be climbing a few mountains on the Balkan peninsula. Of course, all these plans had to be cancelled. It's no secret that, outside A2s and audio systems, I love mountains ...and, right now, I'm really missing them. Being surrounded by their majesty is the greatest feeling of freedom that I know, and the polar opposite of being confined to my own home. As such, I'm sure it'll come as no surprise to anyone that my 'feel-good photo' is of a mountain...

Grintovec.jpg

This is the summit of Grintovec, the highest point of the Kamnik-Savinja massif, in Slovenia, at the extreme eastern end of the Southern Limestone Alps. I look the photo from the Kočna ridge as I made my way to the top of Grintovec.
As you can see, it was a cloudy day. I had spent all morning and much of the early afternoon ascending beneath the cloud, occasionally catching the odd rain shower, and wondered whether I'd get any sort of view from the top. Eventually, I broke through and found that it was a glorious day above the clouds. Grintovec and its sister peaks were all islands in a perfect ocean of cloud. It was absolutely magical.

My first 'decent' car, the year 1986 aged 20, and my 82 - 2.0 Ghia Mk5.

Brings back fond memories of this car, i loved everything about it, was like a new car except for the alloys that needed a refurb which happened later. Pic taken at Northwick Park Hospital where i used to work for the NHS, what a superb organisation they are. And no the NHS didn't pay me enough to afford the car, i had 2 jobs. ;)

No need for introductions on this little beauty, one of my favourite photos in a beautiful location last May.

Stay safe everyone.

Almost this day last year, on a lovely warm spring afternoon with all the trees bursting into leaf and bloom, I took my first major trip out in my then new-to-me Cobalt TDI. It was also my first experience both of driving with OSS open and of playing music through BOSE. I had a wonderful journey through gorgeous countryside all the way along the quiet A40, followed by criss-crossing the spectacular Brecon Beacons. I parked up at 'that corner' on the A4069 Black Mountain Pass to take in the view which, thanks to the horizontal rain, had been denied to everyone who attended the Welsh driving day in August 2018. I spent that evening in the very enjoyable company of @DJ 190 in a pub in Merthyr Tydfil, in advance of the April 2019 Welsh driving social to Llyngorse Lake the next day. Now that was what I call a weekend!

A Favourite of mine from the A82 on the way back from last year's Scottish Social: After 10 or so hours on the road, experiencing crazy roads and views, followed by almost running out of petrol and a variety of all kinds of wheather, I was presented with this view just as the last rays of sunshine were leaving the valley in shadow.

Funnily enough, another moment that always brings a smile to mind happened just a few miles uproad from there a few days earlier, when, after 1000 miles of travel and only minutes after meeting another lonely A2 on the road, the timing was just right and we crossed paths with a whole group of other members in the middle of nowhere which I cannot help to grin at stupidly. :D

(I believe the upload resolution should be low enough as to not be able to identify anyone specifically)

Lastly, from the way back from a UK trip last December, the view from above a lit Dover harbour on a cold winter evening. I'm usually not a big fan of the sea, though seeing it there somehow feels special. (Though that could also be the memories from all the trips connected to passing through there?)

Looking forward to going to the pub again, it's not quite the same from a bottle.
Happy Easter everyone, stay indoors and eat loads of chocolate eggs

Ah - memories of Kirkby Stephen..... Know it well - I used to live at Cotherstone near Barney until 2018.

Now I am 'dahn sarf'. Would rather be self isolating up there tbh!! Nice pics!
