Key button does not unlock doors

Hi All,
Strangely the key button does not unlock doors any more, it is not the battery in the key as I have a brand new key never used and it does not work either.
It has been working on and off recently but now seems to be totally dead, I have to unlock the door with the key manually setting off the alarm sometimes.

Anyone have any idea what this could be?

Many thanks
Steve.

Its possibly a combination of two things:
1: Main key flat battery
2: Spare key lost syncronisation with car.

It sounds like you are ruling out battery in key 1 because key 2 does not work either? If so this could be a mistake.

Change the battery in key 1 and follow the Audi key/car syncronisation process.

Whats that you say? Well I can never remember exactly, but it involves opening car by TURNING the key, starting the engine with the key and then within a certain time pressing the fob buttons to send a signal to the car. When the doors start locking you have hit the right sequence.
Your spare key will also need this doing.

Hi Steve, welcome to the A2oc
The key pairing procedure which chb referred to is covered here - http://www.a2oc.net/forum/showpost.php?p=26896&postcount=2
Regarding your 'new' key, if it's new to the car (and not an original but unused key) a specialist procedure is required to match it to your cars immobiliser etc. If you have not had this done, I'd recommend you contact Skipton 01 who could do this for you at a fraction of the cost that Audi would charge. He's based near Manchester which is not too far from you

Cheers Spike
