Key fob resynchronisation

Hi. I know that there are threads on this and Youtube videos. And I've read 'em and I've watched 'em! And I've tried (at least) three different methods to re-sync my key fobs. The car was off the road during lockdown #1 although I ran it on the drive every week or two and recharged the battery when necessary (battery is just a year old and I had the AA back to check it under warranty - it's fine). Anyway, both key fobs now fail to unlock the car first thing in the morning. Then, if I do one of the several re-sync sequences which I've tried, it works properly and the car locks and unlocks correctly. Then I drive the car. The locking works. The unlocking works. The locking works again when I park it up for the night. And the next morning it doesn't work and the whole thing repeats. It's the same for both key fobs. It's doing my head in! As I say, I've tried at least three re-sync sequences as documented on here and/or on Youtube. They work. Then the car forgets overnight! I know there's a CCC unit which controls a lot of stuff but I haven't even thought about tampering with it because I don't have the skills. Any thoughts/experiences? Thanks in advance.

Hello,

That's not good, I bet it is driving you up the wall.
Did you try taking your key fob apart and bending out the battery contact points.
I did this, I thought it can't be that simple, but it has worked.
Give it a go it takes little time at all.

Cheers

A dying battery in the fob is often a cause of the CCCU 'forgetting' its keys. I'd try replacing the fob batteries. If that doesn't work, there's something more sinister at work.

Cheers,

Tom

Yep will do, thanks. I admit it wasn't the first thing I did because it applies to both fobs, but having said that I'm guessing both the old batteries have been in there for the same length of time. Cheers

OK thanks I'll give that a try. Cheers.

I noticed that my original fob was loosing its synchronisation with the car several times. When I bought, and started to use, a new newer type of keyfob it has not happened once after.

Afternoon,

Not sure if this is your problem but I have experienced similar issues with my newer shaped key fobs, every now and then I had to resynchronise.

The problem I had is caused by the replacement key fobs where the battery connection isn’t quite tight enough. Some bending of the small thin metal clip which is housed inside the exterior cover of the fob solved this.

Hope this helps.

Kind regards,

Tom

Thanks. I'll try that again, although mine is the older (original) type fob. Cheers/

Hi. Thanks. I'm not sure I understand your point though. My fob is programmed to my car, even if it does lose connection. I can't just buy a new fob because that would require some technical work to program it to my car, wouldn't it? (Or am I missing something? Don't hesitate to correct me!). Cheers.

Hi.
My point was merely to say that when I had similar loss of key fob synchronisation problems, the culprit was the key fob rather than the car.
Could be same for you?

I admit in your case though with two key fobs having the same problem (right?) , it seems more likely to be an issue with the car itself.
The CCCU and/or its power supply?

Hi. Yes, I'm with you now, thanks. I'm beginning to think that the problem is with the CCCU although it's not displaying any other symptoms. I've replaced the battery in one of the fobs and I've tweaked the fob's battery connectors. I'm going to do the same with the other one now so as to see for sure whether it's fob-related or car-related. Cheers.
