Lateral Sensor under steering column

Hi

I have just been told the flashing and beeping brake light (RED) is to do with my lateral sensor (something to do with airbags) under the steering column. It is showing a fault. No price given yet but any ideas how much this may be???

If it's the steering angle sensor, then you're looking at about £100-ish in parts, plus an hours labour at a stealers.

sounds like its the steering angle sensor had mine go last year and it was £270 to replace. I also had the blink brake light but also ABS light on as well along with traction control light.

Hi LISAR
The attached dual language parts catalogue link provided by a club member is handy for getting ballpark prices for Audi bits. The steering angle sensor is item 10 in the illustration. Click on the relavant part number and the prices are displayed in US Dollars. In this case it works out at about £170

Thank You all for your help. I have been quoted £300 by Audi (Amersham) but know a garage in Hertford (European Cars, German Car Specialist) and will ask them what they will charge.

Thanks again

:)

Where is the Lateral sensor Located ?

Where exactly is this lateral acceleration sensor (1j0907651a) located on a 2001 A2 ?
I'm having a hell of a time looking for it....I've stripped the lower dash/steering column cowling... cannot find anything
The centre cosole I don't have clue how to dismantle..

Any help would be appreciated

Or is it 8Z0959643 sensor for lateral impact acceleration -crashsensor- / for models with side airbag / and/or / for models with side and curtain airbag?

Seems to be under 'a seat'. It shows as under the driver side on a LHD car or may be there are two, on each side of the car under the seats, below the floor carpets.

I think you'r on the right track withthe centre (gearchange) console. See later posts in the attached link - http://www.a2oc.net/forum/showthread.php?t=9507&highlight=sensor+gravity

Ok all done....for anyone interested...

For a 2001 A2 1.4 TDi....the Lateral Acceleration sensor is located in the centre console near the bulkhead/floor area..
To access it ..you need to remove the drivers side lower centre console plastic cover...by removing the plastic footrest (torq screw) and giving it a good pull to remove it.
Remove the plastic console cover, by giving it pull (its clipped in by 4 metal push clip near towards the seat/gear lever area.
Remove the sound proofing....and you will see see it clipped in by a metal casing.....

Thank you for your help.
