Leaking A2

Our car sits on drive sloping downhill and we have noticed damp in Offside rear.lifted rear seats yesterday and soaking underneath.and about a litre of water in battery tool compartment.Dried it all out but can't see where the water gets in.Any ideas? No sunroof,no sign of any damage to window seals etc.Had the car 13 years without any major problems.Thought it may be time to sell as it has now done 116k but see on Ebay cars with loads more miles than this!!1.4TDI 2002

No need to check, it WILL be the vents, it is very common and it causes a "fish tank" in the battery tray.

Removing the rear bumper is not a major task, not quick, but nothing tricky.

That is actually low mileage for a TDI A2, my grandson's Tdi has done exactly DOUBLE that (233,000 miles) and is still going strong and many on here have done similar or even higher mileages.

It might be good to have a sticky at the start page with 'diagnose common problems here' and a list of 'leaks' and 'noises' and so on.
I know that when I joined I couldn't find the answer about my noisy Webasto because I didn't know the right question to search for but now I see the same question from others using different words and terms 'jet engine' 'cloud of smoke' 'hummimg''buzzing'

I agree but we have a “How to”index thread that is the first place to check. It took ages to set that up and perhaps we could keep adding to it
Maybe a section on there for frequent questions.

But it could still be difficult due to people using different terms.

The one thing I find different in this club is that we are happy for people to ask questions as long as they have had a quick look in the “how to” sections etc.

Sone clubs can be quite “short” with prople when they ask about common problems but I have seen none of that on here.

So please, if you can’t find any relevant threads just ask and we will help.

But doing the suggestions above might reduce the need for people to ask common questions.

A useful suggestion Pinky. This year I'd like to take a look at the how to section, clean it up a bit and if possible repair some of the links and missing items. A big if perhaps regarding links etc, but I'd like to see what we can do.

Perhaps a trouble shooting table with a link to relevant threads might also help. One for later this year, but appreciate the input.

And I totally agree with Steve, it pays to use the search function, but if an answer isn't obvious, is difficult to interpret or there is a crisis, there is no objection to reaching out amongst the community.

....being one of the most newbie here and in addition being a foreigner.... I propose to use a general "part name" map to stereolize terms and make it much simpler for us newbies and hopefully ease searches for all ?

A trouble shooting table sounds like a very good ide !!

I agree totally. The community in here are fab. I remember 5 mins after I asked being comprehensively pointed in the right direction. I suppose I’m just thinking to let people ‘self-help’ if they don’t feel comfortable posting a comment. Maybe. Just a thought anyway.

My A2 also has water in the boot. Ordered new vents from Crewe Audi last week. Arrived promptly, and now booked in for fitting on Tuesday with my local body shop guru. I'll post the results . .
Cheers

Is there a part nos?I will probably have a go myself.I suppose it's better to order the parts before I start taking the bumper !.Thanks for replies.I could,nt see where the water was coming from!!

The water seeps in through the vents if they work loose over time or if involved in a rear tap.

I had water ingress happen to me last year and since they have been replaced and sealed all is well. I had to take the carpets out and dry the boot out; its amazing how a little water can soak through.

I have recently had my bumper off - you may find some of the pictures useful - including the close up of the vent.

I've just suggested these vents as a Group Buy on the Crewe Audi thread. Tom advised £42/pair delivered but didn't give a MOQ. I'd be up for a pair as I'm starting to get some dampness in the boot (is that a euphemism?!)
