LED Number Plate Bulbs

Hi Guys,

Sorry I am posting a lot these days but I have a new issue. I have my Free MOT tomorrow and she is having a major service and last night I noticed that the Right Hand number plate bulb was out. I had a look and cracked the lens! Great, the lens is still in place but I need a new one, any idea where I can get a new Lens?? and I want to replace bulbs with LED's are they 36mm festoon standard bulbs? Is one number plate bulb classed as and MOT failure?? Thanks fella's and I hope your all enjoying the weather and not stuck in a stuffy office without air conditioning like me! Lamby.

I just bought new number plate lamps for mine Lamby. They come as a complete unit from Audi at about 6 or 7 quid each, so not too much, and you get a lens, screws, back casing and bulb. So the whole lot in other words. They are a pain to fit if the screws have broken off though. You need to disassemble the whole boot lid virtually. If you can get the screws out of the black casing and just need the lens, then its plain sailing.

I got 36mm LED festoon bulbs for mine from Ultra LEDS. They are well bright with a nice crisp white light.

Cheers,

Hi Lee,

Great stuff. The Screws are all okay but one! Typical, I will try to get them out tonight if not it looks like I am going in through the boot. Can I be cheeky and ask if you have a part number for the lamps? I am sure a audi stealer can easily tell me but sometimes it's easier if I just give them the part number! Geez, it will come to a point where I actually pick and pack the part soon! Cheers. Lamby.

I think the light unit part number is 8Z0943021
and the part number for the screws N 01396626

Please make sure with dealer before ordering it :)

You can't get to them through the boot, you drop the lens down and they are there, they push onto the conectors (which poke through the backing very strange set up), i had the same problem, light out but pushed the lens up light came on (1 screw had broken) refitted another screw all sorted, that may get you through MOT then you can play around to get the LEDS in

The Grim Reaper, I owe you a beer my friend! I have just been out to assess the rear number plate light, pushed it back in and bingo! it works a treat. So what had happened is the screws where corroded but the lens had actually cracked and the lens has come away from the screw in the hole. So I have added a washer to the screw head and this stops the screw head from falling through the now much bigger hole. So everything is in place and works a treat, well enough to get myself through the MOT and then I can order some new lenses (as it looks like both are ready to let go!) and some LED's and play around with those. Thanks Grim Reaper you have just saved me a load of hassle!
