Let the search begin!

Hi all,

I'm currently on the hunt for a 1.4 derv as I'm being relocated within my company so looking for some über mpg instead my normal low 20's in my pride and joy.

I'm looking forwards to eek ing out as many miles per sips of the derv as possible. I don't know a great deal about the A2 but what I do know is that I want to get one with the 2 seats in the back with a view to taking them out and putting my mtb in their place. Which neatly leads me onto my first newbie question. Is it easy to fit an mtb in the car (hopefully stood up and not laid down)?

Hopefully as I learn more about the car and get into ownership I can start giving back to the forum and help fellow members out.

Thanks for reading.

Craig.

Welcome to the forum Crapbag. An interesting choice of username I have to say!! :p

The mountain bike ( assuming this is your meaning by the acronym mtb) issue has been discussed a few times, with the A2 being thought too tall for carrying /fitting them comfortably onto a roof rack system ( although it is possible of course)

I recall a member who is a keen cyclist talking of using his A2 for travelling related to the bike, and he carried 2 bikes in the back of the A2 with the front wheels removed. Thinking about the dynamics of that and dimensions of the car it shouldn't be a problem.

Good luck with your search for a car.

Thanks for the reply murdo I'm 6ft so getting the mountain bike on the roof wouldn't be a problem. But I'm more interested in fitting it/them inside the car. It's reassuring to hear that it is possible. As I haven't actually been in one it's hard to visualise. But my thought process being that as they are tall a bike should fit in upright with one of the wheel removed.

As for the username it's what I use on all forums. It stands out so people tend to remember me. And it originates from and old pet name from an ex years ago. And it's never taken (can't figure why) so it's a no brainer, for me anyway!

Is there an easy way of finding members in a fine area? It would be useful just to have a look at what a well kept example should look and feel like.

Thanks again.

Craig.

There was a map facility linked to members locations (for those who register this option) but I can't seem to find it. We have a friendly bunch on here so I'm sure if there is someone close to you who can offer a nosey around their pride and joy they won't be shy to identify themselves.

Hello and welcome!

I have been lurking around the forums here for a couple of weeks. Just before I got myself an A2. I've only driven it once since I got it, it's staying at my dads about 300 km away from here, until I sell my old Passat. If I go and get it before you have a chance to meet up with someone, I would gladly pop my MTB in there and snap some photos. Pretty sure it'll fit. It's a 26" wheels 17" frame. So it's quite small.

Cheers Gurux,

I would greatly appreciate that. As I'm going to looking to buy at the end of feb at the latest. I'm also pretty sure that with the seats out there will be plenty of room. I'm hoping enough to stand it upright as appose to laying it down. Then it will be the ultimate stable mate to my other non ideal (but very capable) mtb carrying steed.

I'm in Swindon if that's any help. Sometime in the next two weeks I'm off to Abingdon to a mate's house to do the front suspension, which is currently on the way from the Fatherland. If you haven't tried your bike or driven one by then you are most welcome to pop over and have a butchers.

I have th 5 seat version Btw.

Chris

That would be cool man, thanks! Even though yours is a bench in the back it will still give me a really good idea! Also you can teach me the ways of the a2 what to look for and what to listen for.

If you want to pm me when your heading over to Abingdon that would be cool. Also I'm over Swindon at the croft trail with my little lad on Saturday if that's any use?

Speak soon dude.

Craig.

I'm around next Saturday afternoon. If you want to pop by. Swimming lessons in the morning. Unless I get the suspension this week. I'll pm you later in the week as to where I'll be.

I have no idea how to get the back seats out. Need to look at the manual. :)

Chris

This is our car with the seats folded down. Maybe no need to take them out at all...

Awesome man thanks!

I think I'm going to be fine fitting a bike or two in there! I still like the idea of taking the seats out along with the false floor to gain some valuable height.

Looking forwards to meeting you soon dude. And also to have a snoop around your car.

Hi Tom,

Thanks for the link. It has proved very useful as pics of that type and detail are sadly rare! Did the car sell? Sadly it well out of my price bracket. As this will essentially be a third car for the household. But gwlts anyway if it hasn't sold already.

Many thanks

Craig.

But gwlts anyway if it hasn't sold already.

The car was sold a couple of weeks after posting, it would have been linked to give you examples of the boot configuration, there was not any inent to link you to a 'live' advert.

Good luck with your search, and hopefully you will be able to try your bike in an A2 as part of the process. I'm not aware of your budget, but guessing from the 'third car' comment you could have quite good timing here, as there are a few prospects on Autotrader well under the £3000 bracket. If you confine the search to the TDi as your first post suggests, then the net will become much smaller and you'll have to consider travelling widely to secure a car unless you are very lucky.

Thanks Murdo,

I read the link whislt still half asleep this morning and didnt see the SOLD part!

I have been keeping a beedy eye on autotrader and have indeed narrowed the search by selecting desiel and closing my price bracket.

As for the intent of the link, I only ever saw it for what it was. That being a friendly member helping out another.

As has been already posted previously from other members this place really is a nice freindly place. Without some of the trolling some other forums sadly have!

Thanks again,

Craig
