Light bulb control relay location?

Am I right in thinking it is situated in the nearside front footwell cavity? I'm trying to connect a "check-control" cable for my towbar electrics, but the relay wiring doesn't seem to match the given descriptions.
Without having had a bulb failure before, I was starting to question whether I had this feature with my DIS, but the owner's manual describes it clearly enough. Half the problem is that the kit instructions are in German, but I have managed to get the gist through online translation; i'm now wondering if i've missed something obvious?
Any pointers would be greatly received

Hi
The lamp check relay is situated in the relay plate above the fuse box below the steering column.
This feature is fitted ONLY if you have the full DIS which is identified by the little rocker switch on the end of the wiper stalk and the one-piece digital display panel in the instrument cluster. Full DIS additionally gives you other data such as speed, mileage to empty, fuel consumption, etc.

Thanks for the quick reply Tony,
Something seems to be awry. The towbar electrics are clumped together on the n/s rear corner with a connector to run this control-cable forward along the same side to the footwell. I wondered if there was a relay location at the A pillar base.
I shall investigate your suggestion tomorrow and explore in the uk driver's side rather than the German 'driver's side'

You need three connections to that relay, and you'll have real fun as the pins need to come out and it's difficult. Try two large paper clips, apparently.
The relay is kind of hidden in the LHD cars, too. I've been reading up on this as hopefully I'll be fitting a towbar soon...

Bret,
If you haven't already acquired the towbar , don't rule out German ebay; I managed to pick up an AL-KO one, with fixing kit and the cast Aluminium towball for 110€. The fixing was straight forward, but time consuming..the electrics seem to be continuing the theme

I have the ball and I know where I can find a bar, so the fixings are the next issue, but they're available, if at €50 each. I'll trawl the 'bay and see what pops up.

If you've got some direct questions, then I'd strongly suggest the German forum as there's a bunch of threads providing all sorts of information including discussions on d-values and the differences between different heads (and there appears to be at least two), never mind the "GDW / Bertelshöfer are suboptimal" threads.

Thanks Tony for your additional help with the photos. But, following your initial guidance I accomplished the connection this afternoon. The relay even had 'Glühlampenkontrollrelais' written on it.

Thanks to Bret also; the paper clips worked a treat. If your LHD A2 has this relay on the auxiliary rack in the front left false floor, it may be less straightforward. The space is large enough, but the tails to the wires are fairly short before they disappear into a loom or chassis member.
For what it's worth (there can't be too many people left wanting to fit a towbar?), the Erich Jaeger electric kit I used is very neat and well made.
