Little layout suggestion

Hello!

I know I'm new here but I love the place already, and have just one idea for a minor improvement in layout of the forums etc.

I think it would be great if the service and how to sections etc were separated into dedicated smaller sections for each model. it would make finding stuff so much quicker and easier without having to resort to searching.
It would also be a great reference to anybody new to the car or buying one for the first time, they can go and check all of the pertinent info in one place without having to sift through lots of irrelevance. could have a sticky for each model with most common problems and things to check if buying etc.
Obviously there would be some crossover with an 'All Models' section or such like, for the stuff which is common to all.
i understand it would be a painstaking task to shuffle the threads around into the correct sections, but i think the end result would be well worth it for everybody. i would be willing to pitch in if there is any way i could get temporary permissions to move threads. or i could even just spend some time databasing links to forward to someone to make the changes.

oooooor you already considered this ages ago and you will all give me 5 good reasons why im wrong :)

hope youre all having a good night!
Sam

Edit: or maybe some kind of simple wiki and dont change the forums at all?

double edit: I'm actually loving the wiki idea now. let me know if theres anything similar already or if there isnt, how interested you would all be if i started to build one?

triple edit: those pesky germans beat me to it :p

Hi

firstly welcome.
Secondly please keep on posting ideas. They are always welcome.

Did you find the "How to" "Index" thread? I tried to put all of the useful posts in one place with a link to each.

But we can certainly look at your idea.

Glad you are liking our club, we are quite proud of it and it is always nice to see that it is liked.

Hope to hear lots more ideas from you.

Cheers
Steve B

Hi digger

It's always good to hear 'first impressions' from a new member. Similar suggestions have been addressed in the past but there is so much info on the Forum that it's difficult to come up with a quick reference guide that does not get too big very quickly. One example are the 'How To' guides where each section was initially quite manageable. The contents grew and grew to the point where Birchall did a categorised reference list of key topics - http://www.a2oc.net/forum/showthrea...s-quot-and-useful-threads&p=218091#post218091 Now this has grown to the point of some owners finding it a chore to slog through.

On the 'Buying and Owning' theme we have this thread - http://www.a2oc.net/forum/showthread.php?4309-Buying-and-owning-an-A2&p=33442#post33442 but maybe it's more good luck than management if new members find it. Out of interest, did you spot it within the first day or two of joining ?

Going back to your initial comments, It's a lot more ambitious but if we have any budding film directors maybe a youtube video of all the 'what to look for' points when buying an A2 could be very helpful.

Another option is that work is already in hand on a 'welcome pack' for new members and this could possibly be fine tuned to cover more of your suggestions.

I'd like to think that once new members have found their feet they quickly get to know their way round the forum but let us know if you don't agree

Cheers Spike

Yes I did indeed find that thread pretty quickly, and it is a godsend when you have a specific problem and ctrl+f it!! thankyou for the effort it must have taken. i guess that is pretty much all you need, those compilation threads and the german wiki. it was just a matter of convenience when casually browsing at work (i would never O:) ) or for the average internet user not used to using "insite:" etc.
I think theres nothing not to like so far, you seem a great bunch of people, the information is amazing, and either the moderation is great or you dont have many trolls/advertising assholes etc :p

thanks!

yes i can understand its such a huge volume of info it would take a savant to put it in some semblance of order haha. those how to threads are good though yes, already sorted me out for everything i needed yet, i dont think the index is a slog at all, i think it works well as it is, i would just like a bit more convenience in finding model(/engine/trim) specific, general info (if that makes any sense haha). i have been reading around alot trying to learn everything i can about mine before i can get ELSA or something, but i guess maybe im just being too lazy to sort through the stuff that doesnt apply :p

i did actually find that thread whilst considering buying my a2 :) before becoming a member. i also found and liked the love/hate threads haha!

youtube videos would be a great idea, looking for a2 videos on youtube i just see really old richard hammond reviews etc :/ im not good in front of a camera but ive got a half decent dslr so could lend a hand.

welcome pack would be a good idea also.

im getting used to it more yes :) especially now i set my thread age cutoff and i dont have hundreds of invisible posts haha.
