loading wheelchair

I now have a wheelchair and thought there would be ample room to stow it complete with the weekly shop (no not Tescos, their official policy is to ignore disabled bay abuse,so I don't shop there). I tried it last night for the first time and it seems to almost fill the back end, I'm sure that some one has found a way of stowing one more sensibly than I.
I just threw the rear seats forward and loaded the chair throughthe tailgate. No doubt there is a better way and I am sure that I have seen one packed better. The chair has QD wheels, perhaps I should detach them?
I agree this is a lazy way to find a solution, but I am lazy at the moment (enforced, not naturally lazy). Can anyone help?

I've looked through all 27 pages of google images relating to "audi a2" and can't find anything, dependant on the wheelchair type you might not gain much space removing the wheels.

These people do some chairs that fold frighteningly small, bound to be a similar specialist in your area.

Hi. I fold up my wifes wheelchair (with folding arms) and detatching the foot supports and stand it in the rear behind the seat. Being as my A2 is the SE the lower boot is ideal.Hope this is of some help.It happens to be one of the reasons plus being easier for her to get in and out of the car that we bought the A2.
Cheers,
Malcolm.

Wheelchair stowage

Hi Hollyrescue and Malcolmoc,

I keep mine (std NHS Invacare aluminium folding type) in the boot area, folded down, foot rests and rear anti-tip extensions and wheels off. I don't have to use it every day, so not too much of a drag to stow it carefully to minimise loss of boot space. In effect, loss of boot space is similar to having space-saver false floor in place

Chair folded and laid flat, front castor wheels towards rear nearside with armrests hard to offside edge of bootwell. Footrests and anti tip extensions under/in/through folded frame. Wheels stowed vertically hard against each other and rear seatback - one wheel's hand ring against seatback, the other facing towards the tailgate so wheels as close as possible to each other, touching boot floor. This arrangement allows boot cover to be used and provides a relatively flat area on top of the folded frame to rests other things on like the weekly shop, suitcases, bags etc.

I can post some more pictures if it will help.

Ciao,

Erling

Thanks Malcolm moc and Erling, that is very helpful, my first try was in the dark and raining. My chair seems to be the same as Erlings, same colour etc., but a very much better stow than I managed. I'll give it a try tomorrow, doing it your way I can get the dog in safely as well. Next task is electric buggy into Volvo, should be OK with he 6ft ramps, trouble is that all my "get up and go" gets up and goes by mid morning, but I have the worlds greatest neighbours, so I don't lack for help.
