Just preparing everything to change my suspension strut mounts and bearings only to fall at the first fence.

Locking wheel nut thing is missing. I have the other type so do not know what this is on my car.

Any clues?

That is the standard locking wheel bolt set up from Audi. To get you out of trouble you could try a tyre centre as they often have a selection. I beleive there are just 6/7 variants in this type.
Good luck

If in doubt count the splines and post an advert in the wanted section.

I’ve got 3 of these and I’ve lent them out at postage costs before.

Better finding out now rather than on a dark wet night on the side of an A road ay.,

Just popped to my local VAG specialist Total VAG (he he) he removed them for me. Now I need to buy some new ones. TPS want £68. FFS!!

I just purchased a new set from eBay - China so takes a few days to get here but they look and feel identical for £8.99 -4bolts and spline adapter.

I used to have locking wheel nuts on my BMW but they were trashed by someone using an air gun and overtightening. I found out the hard way when I had a puncture and the AA and RAC could not get the wheel off and I had to be recovered. Eventually, a tyre garage removed them all but went through about 6 of the special "bits" for their equipment. I have replaced them with normal wheel nuts.

I think gone are the days when people would nick your wheels unless of course they are very blingy and cost a couple of grand apiece. I would rather have the piece of mind knowing that there would be no issues if I were to have another puncture.

I have 21” wheels on my BM and no way am I leaving them unlocked, just the tyres are £1k. I use Mcguard locking bolts from eBay, quite cheap and good quality. However, any locking bolt will be trashed if not tightened with a torque wrench. Mine are tightened to 140Nm on the BM so on the little audi the McGuard items would certainly take the pressure.

If Boxy's offer does not work out you may be able to find a genuine Audi key with the right splines on ebay - https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_...TRS0&_nkw=audi+locking+wheel+nut+key&_sacat=0
Cheers Spike

Many thanks for the link, spike. I have ordered one keybolt suitable for the bolt set that I have had in my garage for years now... due to the missing keybolt. I am already in deep debt to this excellent Forum and its very helpful members :) and that is just after being a member for a very short time.... were shall this end up :)
Thank you all :)

Though, I wonder a little how effective locking bolts are when one can buy a set of keys like the one on the picture for small money... I would guess every criminal have these in his pocket ?

Now I have a new issue. I'm trying to get the top Drop link bolt off and although it;s moving it has a centre t30 spine pin thingy which needs to be locked so I can undo it. Need to get another part now. FFS.
I was boyed by enthusiasm, but these two issues coupled with my fasting day (no eating) I have realised they do not go hand in hand.
So stuffing my face with comfort food and looking up the drop link tool I need to get the ffing thing off.

You have an option. Although it sounds a bit brutal. I often force the drop link off the ball and docket (they are not that tight or meaty.

You can then get grips on the ball and undo the nut easily enough.

Sounds heavy handed but it has often got me out of s spot where the slimed centre isn’t much use.

Cheers for that. Today is the day I'm going to get this suspension arm off this car.
Or not and shoot myself in the face.

So. I destroyed the drop link to get the suspension strut out. So I need a new one of them.
Will have to do a search on here for a better one than the Audi one. Not going through this again with another Audi droplink.

I have now managed to replace the strut mount and bearing on the strut and get the suspension back into position.
Fallen at the last fence as the strut bolt that came with the AutoDoc kit is a large spline hole on the bolt and an ordinary hexagon nut on the other side so I need a new tool. Face palm x1000.

Also had to create Audi 3424 tool from an old socket to widen the strut clamp a the bottom of the strut so the strut would drop into place.

I have taken pictures as I go and will do a guide for other idiots like me who feel it's a good idea to do this. :)

I wish I’d been able to get them.
Got TRW instead. We’ll see how that pans out still better than the Audi ones.
Suspension struts and bearings done. The nearside was less hectic 2.4 hours to do that one. 12 hours to do the offside front.
Now I just need to replace the windscreen washer bottle. Front of the car off. While I’m there I want to replace the tiny little horn. Where ever it is?
