Long life or annual servicing

I'm doing a longlife service, but at 12 month intervals. Note that this differs from the normal 'annual' service which is at 10k mile intervals.

I'm running on a variable service interval.......with longlife oil (Fuchs Titan GT1 Longlife III), but change the oil & oil filter at around 10-12k miles (6 to 9 months). All other filters and a full service occur as dictated by the variable interval. All service items are genuine Audi, except for the air filter (K&N). Currently on around 90K miles.
I typically get >25K miles between the Variable service intervals. Most of my driving is > 50 miles at a time and on dual carriageways.

I check my oil, water (radiator and washer fluid), tyre pressure, brake pads & brake fluid (visual), windows and general bodywork weekly (I checked daily until I got to "know" my car).

I check my tyres for condition, lights, mirrors, hazard lights and horn daily.

I loosen and re-torque wheel nuts, verify location of locking wheel-nut key and check tyre compressor functionality monthly.

I perform all regular maintenance myself.

Perhaps overkill on some things, but I've yet to be caught running low on anything important, and as I wish to keep my car for many years to come I'm happy to invest a little time and money for the long haul.

Cheers

Jeff

I'm also on standard service intervals but still use VW 50700 / 50400 long life oil.
Even the youngest A2 is about 7 years old and as the engines age, more soot and acids from combustion get into the oil, depleting the anti-wear additives etc so its good practice to change the oil every year / 10,000 miles.

Cheers Spike

Fixed service intervals, but use the top spec 507 oil. I do all my own servicing and most other repairs myself.

I`m using long life oil and only do 3k miles a year. Any point in changing the oil and filters every year or just do every 2 years?

I think I'll be replacing my oil again this summer; at the end of the day, it's a cost of 40E or so, so I don't see a reason not to.

Olly,

For what it's worth I would be changing the oil and oil filter on an annual basis.

If your very small annual mileage is obtained by doing short, regular local runs, it is probably more important the oil properties are the best they could be.

Big or small mileage, I'd prefer to have fresh oil in the car so even though I do not much more than 3k miles a year, I have it annually serviced / oil changed. And as Spike says above, these cars are getting on a bit. Piston rings may have a few more microns shaved, valve guides a little less tight. Changing oil regularly should help to extend the life of the engine.
