Trying to find which way to go with my bby engine as am bout to hit 190k it still pulls and goes but is getting bit tapptty!! Do I keep it in n do a few mods to it to bring the bhp up a little or do I get bby engine/bbz enigne and bulid that up then I can drop it stright in with the mods already done to it!

Thanks
Dennis

A fairly simple upgrade would be to fit a BBZ motor if you can find a good lower mileage unit, it should bolt straight in with little trouble.
To get the max power from it you will need to use the BBZ ECU, but this will need the immob coded to your dash or the immob switched off, any good mapper/tuner should be able to do this for you.
This should give you around 100bhp, enough to give your A2 a bit more pep.
Of course it goes without saying make sure you brakes are up to scratch, depending on how far you want to go you could of course fit rear discs if you fancy them.
Chris.

Hi, so one could use the orignal ECU from existing BBY engine? No programming needed then?

@ROKJ - the impression I have from a couple of conversations is that the BBY ECU will not have a map that takes advantage of peppier cams / larger swept volume (BBZ / BCB) ; using the plug-and-play BBZ ECU (if the immobiliser question is resolved) would allow the car to run the engine to its full potential if the BBZ engine is fitted.

You can just send the ecu away to get the ecu set to a virgin state or ecu immo off

Also I don’t know for sure but I’m don’t think it would run nicely not sure if it would be able to run closed loop

Sorry, I was extrapolating from a similar conversation I had through a2oc with @celsisone about the AUA/AUB ecu and the equivalent 1.6 golf engine - I should make it clear that I don't know enough about the engine codes or mechanicals in general so shouldn't have commented with the risk of misleading a casual reader.

If you use the original ECU from the 1.6 engine the car only revs 5.800rpm with the 1.4 100bhp ecu the car rev 6.500rpm

…..or of course tweek the 1.4 ecu to do the same thing......………..such a shame that the basic 1.4/1.6 engine is difficult to tune...…. when the electronics are fairly simple to modify even by a keen owner with the right gear...…….

Do you know anyone that remap these?

A few companies can do them....its worth looking at the Lupo/Polo forums they try to get more power out of their cars and try all sorts of methods...….

Easy to do .
