Lowered Suspension!!

Someone emailed me a questioned about lowering my car but I misplaced their email address so excuse me writing back here.

I was asked about my lowered suspension!!

The kit I have used is Bembo Motorsport springs and Koni adjustable shocks.

The difference is quite noticeable. When you put a standard A2 next to mine, my window ledge sits just underneath the door handle of the standard model, so it is quite a reduction in ride height. There is also a marked difference in handling but you pay for this in a loss of ride comfort on anything other than a nice smooth road.

On the open road or on the motorway, the increase stability and confidence is worth it and it attacks roundabouts and corners with an attitude that defy gravity.

How does it compare to the sports suspension on a sport? Is it lower, stiffer? do you have any fillings left:)
There is no comparison. I brought it with the sports suspension and was instantly disappointed. This is about 30mm lower than the sports version and much stiffer.

I took the old kit off, first the springs, then it was too hard, then the shocks, first the rear and then the front.

I have the Konis at their softest setting and its a joy.. super sharp handling and it runs rings around most things especially on roundabouts and twisty roads.

Its only a 1.4, but on twisty roads in the wet, it makes a joke out of many flashy sports car.. I driven cars with harder suspension so to me this feels comfortable.

You can only go over the average hump in the road at under 10mph but that doesn't worry me as they are usually there for a reason.

Do you have any pics of the car before and after fitting your suspension kit?
I will have to have a look out for any of the before stuff,, which looks like any other A2 sports, but none done since the conversion in the summer,, will have to get my finger out..

When you look at sports A2 you can still see the top of the tyres on the front and rear rims.

On mine there is no visible thread pattern on the rear and you can not get even your little finger under the rim.

The front is not as low but the rims sit very nicely under the arches..

Thankfully five up means slow driving but not impossible driving.

larger wheel size with lowered suspension

Hi all, new member here!

Just bought a 2002 FSi SE and the standard 16" wheels are not in the best condition. I like the look of the 17" sport wheels, or perhaps even 18"s of another type, but my main concerns (before shelling out any cash) are:

1) Am I ok to lower 25mm with either wheel size?
2) I think I read somewhere on this site that the correct offset is ET30. Is this correct?
3) I don't know the tyre sizes for either wheel size that will be close to the original overall diameter. Any info appreciated.
4) Do A2s share the same stud pattern as with other Audis, e.g. A3?
5) Any other info in this area would be most welcome!

All the best...

I will have a go at questions 1 + 3.

1.) Yes, I have lowered mine by about 60mm.
3.) I am using 215/40/17's.

Now this isn't a precise gear/ratio/match according to my Sat Nav as it seems to put the true mileage out by about 3-4miles per 100miles in favour of the car's speedo reading.

Also I have had the car reading about 128mph when the Sat Nav showed it to be 119mph.

lowering

Cool, cheers EF MAX.
Yours is 60mm lower! And you have no trouble with any scraping of tyres in the arch? Out of interest what kit did you buy to give you that amount of lowering. So far I've only found lowering springs on the web that offer 25-30mm. Not sure I'd want to go 60mm!

The car already came with the Audi sports kit, but I wasn't at all impressed.

I brought a set of Bembo Motorsports springs from a forum member in Italy and had them tweaked a little then I got a set of Koni Gas adjustables.. Together they make an unusal difference to the performance and the ride but I can live with it..

With 4 people in the car it is tight and you drive extra carefully but with just two its fun.

At the mo, there is very little room for putting fingers under the rim and you can not see the tyre thread from the side but it all fits in nicely within the arches without causing any problems.
