Lumpy tick over

funny.. today I have developed an issue where the car almost stalls on startup and the idle seems a little lower than usual.. seems to run ok normally thought

Hi all,
I cleaned my throttle body today but ran problems! Vag com indicates leak in air intake. Engine is not running smoothly. Reinstalled throttle body twice with no difference. I'm suspicious about this metal part (see picture) maybe leak is because of this part under throttle body. I need to give it a proper cleaning and see if it helps.

To me this seal seems like something supposed to be replaced once touching the throttle body. Could somebody please help is this part available separately and what is the part number for it?

Hi jupis,

Thats the gasket for the throttle body. Needs to be replaced at the same time as cleaning. Dont know what the part no. is but im sure somebody on here will be able to tell you.

Still no luck

I installed throttle body 3rd time and cleaned the gasket carefully. Still I'm facing the same problem.

I'm wondering Skipton's message regarding throttle body "sticking open" in this thread:

http://www.a2oc.net/forum/showthrea...-no-power-help&highlight=loads+of+fault+codes

I'm not sure what is meant by this. My throttle body's air channel is partially open when idle but I can lift the door in both directions with a finger. Is this how it supposed to be?

I think the next move is replacing the gasket and have a 4th try.

I pick up new gasket tomorrow. Let's see if it makes any difference. Vagcom still highlights the air leak and dash has error lights triggered. There's not many connections to leak so I'm expecting the problem to be in the gasket-throttle body allignment.

The pdf-guide of throttle body cleaning I found from one of the A2OC forums (originally by A2TDI from germany forum, I add the link afterwards if I find it once more) had the calibration part not explained precisely. Also I'm suspicious the calibration can be accomplished by removing battery connection only. In my case I couldn't calibrate. I managed to do the calibration correctly according to ross tech guides. The engine runs much smoother after calibration. It is also said in Ross Tech web page that engine idle running is not smooth if throttle body removed & cleaned and not calibrated. This is just what I experienced. Once it was calibrated it was much smoother again. However because of the leak problem is not solved yet.

I will make more in-detail explanation of my troubles and findings if succeeding tomorrow with new gasket. Then maybe someone can avoid some of the most obvious troubles if reading this otherwise very detailed throttle body cleaning tutorial!

OK Olly, I might consider that as well!

I have now successfully fixed the issue by the help of new gasket I got today. Anyone intrested to try the job please check the pdf of how to clean throttle body http://www.a2oc.net/forum/showthrea...the-1.4-16v-throttle-body&p=134317#post134317

I made some notes to the same thread based on my cleaning experience. It really is a straight forward job once you're prepared with everything necessary for the job.

Throttle body cleaned: it was not so dirty, looks like previous owner already had it cleaned. Half an hour work. I also changed the gasket, though there was no need, because the original gasket was ok. I also did calibration with VAG-COM, so this should be ok for next few years. I do not feel any difference.
