hello
Just out of interest.
I managed to travel 362 miles on one tank of diesel that is before the needle hits the first red line on the display.

Previously ran the car dry and managed to get 420 miles and still had i think 4 litres of diesel left.

how does that fair with anyone else.[24][33];)

cheers

I eked 350 miles out of my FSI on one cross-country journey when I couldn't find a Shell station to fill it up with Optimax. When I gave up and filled it with normal stuff, the DIS claimed I only had 10 miles left [B)]. A not-all-that-impressive 39mpg or so.

I average around 390-420 out of my chipped diesel (mostly adriving at about 40-50 Mph around the M25 but my all time record was 460 but i did have a range of zero !!!

I regularly get over 500 miles to a tankful (42 litres). The last few tankfulls have averaged at 530 miles (air con off). That's mainly a 12 mile one way commute to work (very light traffic) and a motorway journey at weekends. The most I've ever had is 570 which was 90% motorway. This morning the trip computer shows 398 miles since I last filled up and the DIS indicates I've still got 175 miles worth of fuel. I'd say my driving style is relaxed which isn't to say I hang about. Progress and average speed is more important. I would say that, having been a member of the Institute of Advanced Motorists for the last 19 years.

The fuel consumption figures have got better with more miles under the belt. Mine has done 14,000 miles and the engine has loosened up nicely. There's been a marked difference since about 9,000 miles.

out of curiosity, how much more fuel does one use up with air con constantly on?

Sport FSI with 42l Tank

16938 miles (3 Jul 03 - 5 May 04)
Average tank fill 36.04L
Average miles per tank 268.86m
Average MPG 34.07
MPG per tank: best 38.73 worst 30.76.

Generally dont fill it until I get the 'bong' (much to my wifes annoyance). Done 15m with 0 miles left on the DIS and still had 2 litres left! WTF?

Climate is always on.
Regular visits to limiter ;)
Regular diet of Optimax :)
Few tanks of BP Ultimate :|
2.5 tanks of regular ULP :(

Opps
Missed out
Miles per tank:
Best 324 (Also best mpg tank)
Worst 144 (When I had filled with normal ULP and got fed up part way through tank)

oops !!

Forgot to say i have a 34 litre tank on my a2

My daily 70-mile round trip commute along twisty B-roads and then a good stretch of dual carriageway normally allows 'The Bug' to get me about 330-340 miles before hitting the first red line (34 litre tank) and the fuel symbol showing. Normally fill up soon after that (always branded fuel - I've noticed a big increase in consumption on the few occasions that I've made the mistake of filling up with, say, Tesco diesel) with 26-27 litres max - so usually comes in at 59.5-60mpg, which I'm very happy with.

Also very happy with servicing - had first long-life service at 30,800 with 1000 miles still to go on indicator. Now at 32800 miles and service indicator is showing 29300 until next service!

Starting new round-trip commute of 110 miles next month - all A-road. First few journeys I've made so far show favourable improvement in economy - so hope to get 65mpg+

I average 62 mpg from my diesel and always get over 500 miles from a tank (42l new tank) but thats a lot of motorway and A-road cruising, but i do go into central London crawl every week, so am pretty impressed. Not had the first service yet but looking at approx 28,000 miles from the readout.

Normally get between 380 and 410 miles, most I've managed is 445.
Economy seems to be getting better the older the car gets, now at 19400 and the DIS has settle to 40.1mpg average. Travel around 35 miles a day to work and back on all types of roads at different speeds including 5 miles of dual carriageway.
I always use optimax apart from 2 occasions where I've been away from home and not been able to find a shell station and have used Esso super plus.

Best for me has been 452miles.
Average consumption (all fuel logged) is just over 49mpg, over 16,000miles. This is a minimum mass car (base model - only extras are front floor mats!).
I have recently been carrying my bike in the back and found that you can save 35kg (equiv to half a passenger) by leaving the back seats and parcel shelf out. I think this also makes the vehicle less likely to be stolen!

UK spec 1.6FSI

30 litre tank and mostly motorway cruising at near 3000rpm.
Anyway, I get 350 - 360 miles per tank. with the dash telling me I have 15 miles left average trip mpg stated is 53 or 54mpg.

I am hoping for the illustrious 400miles per tank but daren't push it.

We have a '04 diesel and have just come back from a week long driving holiday through Europe (France, Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Denmark, Sweden) and the furtherest we got before refilling was 417 miles (still had 10 litres in the tank).

The best ecomony was 62mpg (calculated, not DIS) and that was doing 60mph on motorways.

Incidentally, the top speed was 114mph (that's autobahn driving before I get flamed) and the A2 was as quiet and manageable as ever.

With the hot weather and cc on at all time. I get about 37.8mpg and around 340miles per tank of optimax. Currently around 15000.
