Min Oil warning light

Hi All

The min oil warning light came on yesterday. Have topped up and it is still shouting at me every time I put the ignition on! :confused:Should this not cancel itself or does it need to be cleared?

Many thanks

Neil

It does self cancel, unless the sensor is at fault - which was the problem on my first A2.

Having changed the sensor, the light still came on intermittently, so Audi changed the clocks under warranty. I'm not for one minute suggesting that you need to change the clocks, but if you've double checked the amount of oil with the dipstick, on level ground, and the light is still on, I would look at the sensor in the first instance (check the wiring from the sensor for continuity) and take it from there.

Cheers,

Mike

Hi Mike

That's what I thought but then I thought the Oil Sensor Warning Light should come on! Where might I find the sensor? (in easy terms please:eek:)

Thanks

Neil

Pretty sure that the sensor is in the same place on the 75 as the 90 and this is an undertray off job.

Once off, get the car on axel stands and look up the drivers side of the engine block - it's halfway up there with 3 wires going into it.

You can also check continuity with the wires, once you've removed the connector - they join at the brown 17-pin connectors in the passenger footwell:

Pin 16 of the brown connector is a black and blue wire, pin 6 of the blue connector is a blue and yellow wire and the 3rd wire from the sensor is a brown wire, which should have continuity to earth (so that'll be the chassis).

Cheers,

Mike

Cheers Mike. That's Saturday morning gone then!

Only using the car on Monday (cycling the rest of the week) so I only have to put up with the 'BEEP!' just 2 more times (hopefully).

Thanks again.

Neil

No worries Neil - as long as the dipstick is reading good, you can ignore the beeps and not worry about any damamge.

Cheers,

Mike

Hi Mike.

The Tank will be reborn! Glad you are ok. Time and money is all that is needed!

Had a play around yesterday and all looked fine - 3 wires into the sensor (all connected - tried to disconnect and look at the contacts but that sucker was not coming off!) and seemed to be fine in the brain but could not find the earthing point. Most likely place Mike? Still BEEPing at me yesterday. This morning BEEPed at me. Coming home from some private work I started laughing like an idiot! I could see the radio station on the DIS! The car had not BEEPed at me.

I love my car but it is somewhat idiosyncratic!!

Regards

Neil

I am expecting it to BEEP at me later today by the way.

Ha! They do like to keep us on our toes don't they?

Yes, an earth issue seems most likely in this instance now. I'll look into the earthing points for you in the meantime, but you can keep an eye on things with the dipstick for now.

Cheers

Mike

Right, according to the schematics, the earth wire goes to 'earth connection 1 in engine wiring harness', which isn't much help!

This earth point is then linked to an interior earth point, via pin 17 on the brown 17-pin connector in the passenger footwell compartment, so you can check for earth continuity here.

Have a shufty around the engine bay and see that all the bolts that connect to earth are tight and corrosion free (there's one noticeable one by the front of the gearbox), and that's about all you can do, apart from taking the entire loom apart!

Cheers,

Mike
