More advice needed - firmware update!

Not sure if its specifically 7540 - the bulletin mentions 8G0 906 961 but also mentions a CD ISO. Specifically CD 4E0 906 961S.

I dont really mind around getting the latest - just something to fix this issue.

On pairing ECU with the car in SVM I'm assuming that ship has sailed then?

I think @timmus know how to code the ECU to the instrument cluster or possibly pair the instrument cluster to the ECU either way they would match

Yup SVM is the online system - when control units are ordered for replacements I believe dealers are supplied with some kind of code to lock in the changes to the SVM system. Its a racket really.

Alternative would be I guess to source a later firmware ATL ECU and clone if anyone has one they are willing to help with?

What are my options here? Original ECU died and I cant get a dealer supplied replacement - its seems a bit off that they effectively cast you aside if the ECU and car dont match in SVM given they can even supply a replacement anymore :(
As long as the new ECU is the same part number as the original I can't see a problem with the actual update, I wouldnt suspect SVM to reject updating, there are 3 SVM update codes depending on which version is already installed. The problem is finding a dealer that is willing to take the risk of a failed update especially if the ECU is no longer available(they could insist on a disclaimer to cover themselves?).I sure there are some independents also that buy access to the SVM/Geko system that could also update.I will check with a friendly independent I know.

I think the problem will be the ECU that is in the A2 is not the F version, although it is running the correct firmware.
Audi changed the ECU model number between each engine version, all but the ATL had multiple firmwares within these ECU model numbers
The daft thing is that ALL of the ECU's are EDP15+, so actually all are identical in terms of fit / form / function, I suspect the different part numbers was simply done to ensure that the correct ECU was fitted to the correct engine both in the factory and in the VAG dealerships, the latest firmware being used at the time of fitting the ECU

8G0 doesn't ring any bells as a correct pt no,but the 4E0 doe's, I will have a look tomorrow and see if I can locate it.
Is the ECU already on the car and adapted to the immobilizer ,up and running?

Scott actually as 2 ECU, the original ECU failed (a very rare occurrence for the EDC15+) one has been adapted to the immo, the other is running with immo turned off in the ECU

The one installed is yes despite coming from a Polo. Hence the issue with SVM.
So is this polo ECU 045 906 019F SW 5418 or has it a different part number?
I would suggest except responsibility and ask the dealer to try SVM code 01A998, SVM usually aborts if the the update is incompatible. Or try to find the software on a disc and see if Paul can extract it and flash it to your ECU.
Bulletin number is 2011904/8

Local VAG independent was having issues with abort with SVM so I'll maybe give him a phone with this info. Not sure if he'll be able to do this but will give it a go.

Brilliant help guys I've taken a massive leap forward on this tonight - Thanks.

Hi Kustard83,

We have ODIS with access to GEKO/SVM at my workshop. I have to say though that we have never tried to use it with the A2 (never had any requirement for a software update on one until reading this thread and we find VCDS more than suffices for coding/diagnostics). We only really use ODIS for newer VAG vehicle GFF, key coding/NAV updates etc. Should ODIS work with the A2 for an ECU update or would the A2 require updates to be done through what I understand to be the previous generation diagnostic interface, VASPC?

Cheers
Rob

The company listing the cd has got back to me to say it's not available :(

Only option looks like svm and prey

You might need more than a firmware update. The ATL ecu is 045906019F. Was there a Polo PD with an ATL or even a VNT?

There was a 80bhp polo with vnt yes using the edc15p.

I'm keeping an eye out for an atl ecu but to be clear I was getting this issue before my original ecu expired.

Presumably this is the electric EGR valve that is the problem. More likely a faulty valve? If it was a firmware problem, surely it would be a more widespread?

Don't think so suspect due to possible later revision of flap motor not being correctly recognised by the ecu. I had a faulty flap motor and replaced with new.

It looks like a recognised issue

Hi Rob, Yes Odis does work on the A2 but there is no or very little guided fault finding. But you can code keys and do software updates with it via Audi Flash I suspect only if you have the Audi data installed.Im not sure what level independents get,be it VW,Audi,Seat etc. Self diagnosis is available etc
I don't think you can do updates from CD any more as most of the current laptops don't have a CD drive and I have not needed to try for a good few years.
