More advice needed - firmware update!

No joy with local vag spec guess he's can't be bothered with the hassle.

2 questions I guess for me.

1 is it worth getting hold of the proper part number ecu for the atl. Does it add anything? Even if I get one or may have the correct part number but will I still be in the same position with an svm unmatched pair car/ecu?
2. I'm guessing update can only be done inside the car via odis/vas pc or svm so limits ability to send an ecu off somewhere

The company listing the cd has got back to me to say it's not available :(

Only option looks like svm and prey
Have looked on CD Disc 4E0 906961S which is from 2006 and I can't find any reference to any A2 updates on it .
8G0 906 961 is a good part number ,but we haven't got it . It is available to order from Audi for £12.
I don't know if it will contain the SW required. Where/who sugested this part number may contain required SW? It might be worth taking a punt and ordering but might not contain what you are after. But how to extract it and install it if it does , I have no idea
Good luck. John.

Yup for the cost it's worth the punt. I actually went back to the seller and they confirmed the 8g0 part as available but couldn't disclose contents but for sure sounds like of i can get direct from audi then much easier.

@depronman is it easier for me to order and send down or for you to pickup direct and me to reimburse? Let me know

Hi Cheechy,

Did you get anywhere with this? I'm waiting to get hold of a 045 906 019 F test unit with software version 5632, 5418 or 5349 installed so I can attempt an SVM update to the 7540 firmware. Given the risks suggested with the online update in the TPI it would seem sensible to use a spare unit or at least have a spare replacement unit ready to save leaving a vehicle immobile.

Cheers

Rob.

Its proving difficult just due to problematic logistics but still ongoing! Trying to get ODIS engineering etc working together offline is not easy.

I've picked up another 019F unit (these are not cheap) and going to get it hopefully paired up soon - not sure what firmware is already loaded but will find out.

Yeah, I can understand that! We’re online with ODIS so I’m ready to go as soon as I get the right 019 F unit to try. Hopefully be giving it a shot in June.

Cheers

Hi

Have you tried speaking directly to Audi UK's service technical department? At the very least they should be able to offer you a route that would resolve the problem. It seems to me that if there is a software update then by definition this is an acknowledgement that the original software had a defect. Surely this is the equivalent of any other recall by a manufacturer, or am I missing something?

Yes I did and not interested !

Perhaps an independent with plenty of Audi A2 knowledge may know of a way or even can send the unit back to Audi or the company who manufactured it for a firmware upgrade or even just a refresh. Just a thought.

Just an idea.

How about posting your dilemma on the larger German A2 club, Bret has said posts in English are quite acceptable.

Will keep this in my back pocket good shout. As mentioned I've picked up another atl ECU just not sure yet on firmware version...

Hi guys! I want to raise this issue. I have a strong desire to update my ECU on 1.4 BBY to version 5949. I know that this cannot be done using ODIS, only VAS PC is needed. I have VAS 5054A, I have the firmware file itself. I tried VAS PC 19.01 and 19.01.01. When I install it on Windows XP, I do not see the Self-diagnosis button. When I use Windows 7 - I follow the path Self-diagnosis - 01 - Engine, but the program writes that "System is missing". The adapter works, it is detected correctly, the system is polled and you can read, erase errors, but I cannot get to the ECU firmware level. Has anyone finally done this on their own? Can you give exact recommendations on what is needed for this?

@a-zwo is this question in your area of interest with the Magnetti Marelli ECU?

Oh, I think I completed this quest)
