MOT time... argh...

and can I even get one in time...
Last year I was in the same situation, the mot run out and I needed more time to sort things out. It wasn't great, but I had to put the car or sorn, bicycle again for the time being. Over a week later when it was done, got mot, paid road tax again, luckily you can put the car on sorn even just for a few days, so wasn't issue registering again.

This is the replacement bolt mechanic put on… I don’t have a socket to fit it… so can’t remove the headlamp to check anything…

Certainly would have thought the plastic gear adjusters and / or the inner and outer mounting points of the headlight would cover just about any light pattern issue.

The bulbs are correctly seated into their holders and the range adjustment motor connected to the frame?
I'm going to go look now as it has stopped raining... I can't actually pull it out as I don't have a socket for the replacement bolt the mechanic used... (see photo above)

the current headlamp was put in in 2018 and has passed every MOT no problem... until now...

I'll go see what I can see.. obviously driving it all these years the headlamp points where it should... nothing has changed in that regard... as far as I can tell...

The same back bracket is broken on mine too unfortunately, plus glued on the top bracket, yet the headlight should be stable enough, when both bolts are secured properly.

Did you glue your broken bracket thingy?

Even with that broken with the 2 bolts secured it would seem plenty tight and solid… it doesn’t wiggle really… if i really push on a t it might move a millimetre left or right…

Should i put super glue on mine? Just apply glue and hold it together with my hand for required time? The posts on the headlamp that slide into the 2 tab thingies are fine.. both the headlamp side and on the bracket side… it is just the top of the bracket that broke…

Maybe stick some rubber or sponge in there to stop the very slight wiggle when pushing on it?

Hello,

I just pulled my headlight out… it looks like the tabs are fine… but the plastic bracket that they are mounted on is cracked on the top and separated… i can’t tell if this itself is a replaceable part… it looks like it is part of a larger section… i might be able to glue it back together… in any case… it looks like i just need the bolt for the bottom of headlamp…

No problem, I will pm you later.

Measure the diameter of the pesky bolt you took out, or one of the other similar ones. My guess is it's an M6, Metric thread, 6mm dia. Measure length also, best measure one of the originals. If you can wait till Monday, you'll get one, and washers if required from Basingstoke Bolt & Tool, 1256 329781
Google Maps: https://g.co/kgs/6LT3nJ
Minimum cash sale is £5. If I remember, they're male Torx. Take a good example with you, they're happy to help.
If desperate, Halfords probably have them in packs.
Mac.

Did you check the headlight to see if the range adjuster motor was disconnected from the frame?

Thanks, I've bought a bolt from Ami here on the forum...

Super glue and baking soda will bond the broken bracket back together.
wow, I just watched a bunch of YouTube of superglue and baking soda... amazing stuff!

I'm trying to think how I can do this by myself... might need another pair of hands to hold bracket together whilst applying superglue and baking soda layers...

or put glue on the surface of the break, hold it together till it has some strength and then I can let it go and use my 2 free hands to apply baking soda across the top of the crack and then glue to build up the strength in a few layers?

so if I can get the bracket glued it would hold the headlamp more securely if I can fit the 2 little tab things into the slots on the side? it fit perfectly when I brought both sides together... no bits were missing, or chipped off... it fit real good....

the rest would be down to the mechanic aiming the light up or down?

this would mean I don't really need a new headlamp?

I was unsure how to slot the screwdriver into the tab thingy holding the electrical wires plug into the housing... is it through the back straight in or from the side into the hole? argh... the video someone posted above already had the plug taken off the back... although the chap tried to explain it I think... will watch it again... argh....

Support the bracket with some tape and glue the other side, once set remove tape and apply on that side. They set almost instantly so perfect alignment is required. Whatever you do make sure YOU are not stuck to the parts!!!!!

Be aware the super glue and baking soda sets rock hard so do not go crazy.

Once the support bracket is repaired and the tabs fitted the headlight will be as solid as the day it left the factory and only need to be correctly aimed. So no need for a "new" headlight as the unit itself is undamaged - as far as we know.

The trick with the headlight wiring plug - and many others - is you need to push the plug on tighter then lift the release tab.
