muddy bass with concert II?

I have an 03 1.6FSI SE with standard fit stereo (ie speakers front and rear). After a month and a bit of ownership I have come to the conclusion that the bass dominates the entire listening experience. Does anyone else find this?

While not a proper audiophile I do like good clean sound, and the bass is loud, but not well controled and you can tell that it's obscuring the other frequencies. I have checked balance and bass/treble controls and find the A2 is the first car I have had where I turn the bass down and the treble up!

Comments and solutions are most welcome.

Well, speaking as a bit of an audiophile and a sound engineer, it sounds like you may have a blown tweeter, or a disconnected tweeter.

The A2 is generally a very good platform for a well-rounded sound, and I've never come across a situation where the bass dominates on standard settings.

Try putting your ear to each tweeter in turn to see if they're all working.

Cheers,

Mike

If you think you have too many bass, then programm the Radio to Bose (codet to "Bose"), not "normal"
You will read "Bose" when switching it on and you have with Bose-code and Bass on plus 5 the same as much Bass, as on Minus 3 or minus 2 with the normal presets.

I thought I had convinced myself that the tweeters are working, but I just listened again to the front tweeters and I really can't say with certainty that I can hear them. I turned the bass all the way down and the treble all the way up and though there is lots of treble, it is really difficult to tell where its from.
The car had lived a coseted life, so I would not expect blown tweeters.
Where are the crossovers located?
If front tweeters are out then would the rears be effected? (havn't tried listening really close to the rears).
Only thing I can think of is to disconect the main speaker so that I can listen to just the tweeter.
Any other thoughts most welcome.
And how do I put the unit into BOSE mode?

Ta!

Last things first, you can't put the head into Bose mode without a full version of the VAG-COM diagnostic equipment and to be honest, it's not a fix to do this, but a botch.

A cosseted life is no guarantee of tweeter longevity and also, there are no cross-overs in the system, the tweeters merely connect in parallel with the woofers.

Basically, if you put your ear right next to the tweeters (behind the small grilles next to the door release handles), you'll soon be able to tell if they're working.

If you're ever over this neck of the woods, then let me know and I'll take a look for you and also do a diagnostic check to see if that shows anything.

Cheers,

Mike
