AS I did my post on the weights of A2 options (http://www.a2forum.net/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=1926) I realised the multi-function steering wheel weighs nothing...

So has anyone ever retro-fitted one?
Ade is the multi function steering wheel one of the options with the gadget?
Would it be as easy to fit as the cruise control?
And if you are taking the wheel and airbag off anyway you may as well fit cruise too at the same time?

I think an email to Martyn at VAG is in the pipeline!

Martyn emailed me back and said that there is NO wiring from the steering wheel to the CPU for either the cruise control OR the multi-function wheel... so no can't do... [29]

As far as I know, the CAN-Bus equipped A2´s have wiring from the steering wheel, (to retrofit the Crusise Control, at the least), only the older ones (I think before 8/01) have not.
But Martyn may know more..:)

Bye, Frido

I thought something like that to be the case as someone on here definately did retro-fit the cruise by just buying a stalk.... the steering wheel is a hefty £200 + VAT though! (still cheaper than Audi's original fit of over £340!). But really the only option that I wish I did spec and didn't...

Ade: have you checked the tool yet for this?

Frido: where do I check when my car was made and if it has this CAN-bus? I bought it 10/01... so it may have been made before 08/01...

Johann, nope, I wouldn't know where to find it in the UI. I would probably need a dealer to tell me the info.
