Music to test BOSE

Prompted by @A2Steve 's issues a while ago when he thought there was something ill in BOSEland with his stereo, I thought I would start a thread with some suggested listening to show off the quality of the BOSE system, and indeed to test whether it is working okay. To encourage collaboration I'm not saying this is any kind of definitive list, and I'm perfectly happy to add to it as suggestions. Hopefully we can get stuff which suits most people's tastes.

So based on various suggestions, a (heavily) edited, compilation could go ...

  • Tone Loc - Funky Cold Medina
  • The Cranberries - No Need to Argue
  • Pet Shop Boys - Young Offender (Jam & Spoon Trip-o-Matic Fairytale Remix No 1) Although this does tend to go a bit "too" low for the BOSE, and can induce pretty bad rattling if played too loud
  • Pink Floyd - Dogs of War (from Delicate Sound of Thunder)
  • AC/DC - Thunderstruck
  • Stevie Wonder - Superstition
  • Rolling Stones - Gimme Shelter
  • Michael Jackson - Wanna Be Startin' Something
  • Dire Straits - Sultans of Swing
  • Grace Jones - Slave to the Rhythm
  • The Jam - Start!
  • Prodigy - Out of Space (rather than Firestarter, but I know what you mean Steve ;) )
  • Stranglers - Nice & Sleazy
  • Yes - Owner of a Lonely Heart (from 90125)
  • Led Zeppelin - Kashmir
  • Robert Miles - Children
  • William Orbit - Adiago for Strings
  • Snap - The Power
  • KLF - What Time is Love (Which version though ...)
  • Seal - Hey Joe
  • Erasure - Oh L'Amour
  • Jamie Cullum - Don't Stop the Music
  • Jamiroquai - Didjital Vibrations
  • Yello - The Race (maybe not the full 13:23 minute version...)
  • Eurythmics - Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)
  • Queen - I Want to Break Free
  • Fleetwood Mac - The Chain (although, hard to see most A2s on a drag strip ;))
  • London Grammar - Hey Now
  • Indiana - Solo Dancing
  • Birdy - Skinny Love
  • Beth Orton - She Cries Your Name (Trailer Park version)
  • One Dove - Fallen
  • Delerium with Sarah McLachlan - Silence (DJ Tietso In Search of Sunrise Remix)
  • Massive Attack - Unfinished Sympathy
  • Franz Liszt - Prelude and Fugue on B-A-C-H
  • Strauss - Also Sprach Zarathusa (Made popular by the film 2001)
  • Vangelis - Main title from Bladerunner
  • Tokyo Ghetto Pussy - Pump It 1
  • Propellorheads - On Her Majesty's Secret Service
  • Nigel Stanford - Cymatics
  • Robyn - Fembot

Anything by Muse especially Hysteria, time is running out and plug in baby. Kasabian- underdog. Stevie wonder- signed sealed delivered (u gotta love soul). Black keys - gold on ceiling, fall out boy- this ain't a scene, thnks for the memories. Rolling stones- paint it black, gimme shelter.

And as the A2 was launched in 1999 how could we not have prince - 1999 as a song on the list?

Definitely YES, Prince-wise I'm sure there's better tracks to think of...

Not heard the Bose in an A2 yet. But soon will can’t wait :).
Anyway going to try
Led zeppelin-Kashmir
Foo fighters-Everlong
Robert miles-Children

It would be interesting to do side-by-side comparison, probably worth making a disc with some of the suggested tracks :) But definitely try to do it from original discs, rather than using MP3s as your source.

Liking much of the above! A couple of things I've played on the standard Concert CD and been amazed by the sound, would love to hear on BOSE:
  • The Corrs - Forgiven Not Forgotten, especially Toss the Feathers instrumental, a track to make your right foot sink spontaneously in the carpet :)
  • Marillion - Clutching at Straws, first three linked tracks in particular, huge bass explosion on the first one.

Up songs: Nick Cave & Bad Seeds: There she goes, my beautiful world
Frank Turner: Glory Hallelujah (great sing-along song) or Try this at home

A good sound system should also do a good job on more delicate songs:
Laura Marling: anything off the Semper Femina album
Laura Gibson : Empire Builder
Nick Cave again: Distant Sky (not a dry eye in the house)
