I did read somewhere that the French government are trying to stop the issuing of pet passports to UK citizens. But if the French, especially those in the countryside, are told to do something by the government, they tend to do the opposite!

Well, there is a business opportunity for me. I can take UK pets over in order to get them an EU Pet Passport :)
 
We've got 3 dogs with Latvian pet passports (as my partner is Latvian) so no problems with taking them with us. Rabies jabs, every 3 years, have to be done by a vet in an EU country but other vaccinations can be done in the UK and entered in the passport. The only requirement for entry into the UK is a worming tablet given between 24 and 120 hours before arriving in the UK. Cost of that varies wildly, anything from €1.50 in Latvia to €40 in the south of France.
 
The process is not quite as simple as I thought! You have to get the cat registered in France first. The vet filled out the form which I just have to post now. Not a process you could finish on a quick visit; allow at least a week.

Cats don't need worming now so you can come and go as you please, once you have the passport.

Success! Going to the vets this morning I was not optimistic. The cheque that I had sent for registration had not been cashed but I was forgetting that in France a cheque is as good as cash as there are severe consequences for bouncing a cheque. The vets told me that my cat had been registered - this seems to take about two weeks. So all you need is for the cat to be registered with I-cad and probably a French address!
