It would be interesting to know if anyone has EVER used one of these space-savers?

David

Yes used one of these worked fine
I did remove and deflate it’s soon as I got home about 20 mins drive and once the valve is removed it returned to its compact state
Cheers Paul

Likewise here: puncture on a really noisy section of the M1 near York. Off side rear tyre was shredded. Called out breakdown service to get us off the hard shoulder, fitted the spacesaver, drove into York to buy new osr tyre: back in the boot for the spacesaver. Still looks new.

I beat that :p The one I bought for my 1st A2, years ago, on ebay : I got it for 1€, I was the only one to bid !

I used one once too (on the current A2). It works just fine.

I wonder if someone who has used the space saver could tell us how long it takes to pump up using the Audi supplied compressor? If it's a long time is there a danger of flattening the battery and would it be an idea to run the engine while pumping? The A2 I've just bought had a space saver but no compressor (the previous owner thought you just used the spare as it is - luckily he never had a puncture!). I've bought what is apparently a genuine Audi compressor on ebay and I'm a bit confused by diagram on the side - see photo below. What on earth do the pictures 2A and 2B show? 2B seems to show the compressor connected through some sort of container between it and the tyre, not sure what that is (apologies in advance if I'm being thick). Thanks, Clive.

You win Boxy! I thought I did ok at the scrappy a year ago buying false floor kit, space saver, support bracket and ultra rare canvas boot liner plus rubber retaining straps for the inside of the boot for £70 but this beats that.

I also had to spend a very long time cutting the holes in one of my side panels as the one I bought was damaged...

I don't remember precisely, maybe 1 to 2 minutes ?
It doesn't take ages, don't worry ;)

I would say that's the "tyre goo" that you should have in there as well (2A), and it is probably the way you "push" the goo into the tyre using the compressor, it hadn't actually occurred to me how you would actually get the stuff into the tyre, and there's your answer :)

Does the rubber perish or age harden on those space saver spares and if it does, can you by replacements?

It was a lot longer than that for me, 15 minutes whilst waiting for RAC and they still needed to put a lot of air in it!
