My first acquisition.

My new acquisition, an 02 1.4tdi.
It's had quite an interesting back story. Bought new from Gilders Sheffield Audi by a family business in '02 it remained in their ownership until 2015. Milage is now 151429.
Whilst they owned it it had a new engine at 73638mls.
Turbo replacement at 105836.
A secondhand gearbox replacement at 123555.
And lots of other work done - 3 (?) wheels refurbished under warranty etc?
Is all this work usual or extraordinary?

I've been given loads of receipts by the previous owner. The biggest puzzle was a different number plate in many early invoices and MOTs. The chassis number matched in all, but the number plate was different. I rang the original owner and he confirmed it had been in a private plate.
Pheww, thought I'd bought a ringer.
The paintwork is in good condition, but I'm not overly keen if the blue seat interior, or the solid bench rear seat.

There are a few things that need addressing before too long. I'm going to fully service it, changing all filters. The front brakes discs a d pads aren't great. And it's coming up for its cambelt change soon. This was possibly the reason the previous owner sold it.
Gear engagement is also a bit notchy, and precious gear engagement is essential. I haven't been used to that with my '08 A4. Would an oil change make much difference, or is it likely to be something more serious?
I'm sure to have many more questions, but I have been busily searching through old threads too.

Congratulations on your purchase.

No issues changing the interior BUT if it starts life with a rear bench seat, that’s what it is. You can’t safely change it to a four seater with two separate rear seats I’m afraid.

Thanks for that, she seems decent enough.
Yes thanks, that's what I've found out already about the rear seats. It's a shame really.

How is mileage now 151k then a turbo replacement at 185k? Can you see into the future?
Imagine the new engine could well have been the result of running thru flood water especially in the bowl that is Sheffield but that's pure speculation

Are the TDIs more susceptible to damage running through flood water than any other car.?... Wouldnt want to risk driving through flood water with the electrics in the underfloor but just interested in understanding if theres something particular about the TDI .

All A2's air filters are low down with a small hole in the air box and like you said electrics underfloor!

Dont think any car ever benefits going thru water weather designed for it or not!

Well spotted Pike, I wondered who'd be first to notice that.
Typo, fat fingers. Should have read "turbo at 105836".
Thanks

Sorry it was quite rude of me
Welcome aboard
First warning:
You will be doing well if you don't want another! I have 2 and quite frankly if they are close enough for me to grab them at £500 for a running TDI it's joining my flock lol!
Fit a additional engine to chassis earth the factory one corrodes internally and can fail without warning, I was very very lucky to not leave the wife stranded lol!
