My heart is braking

For those who attended the South West meet a couple of months back you may have met my boy Max, he's the best pooch I've ever had and he is so loved by all who meet him, both myself and my wife adore him and he's completed our family unit.
Sadly I was informed by our vet today that a lump we were worried about that had appeared on his head was in fact a tumour, worse still it has worked it's way into his skull which means operating may be to big a risk!! Needless to say this 6'7" man broke down in front of the vet as my whole world collapsed, I think both myself and my wife have shed more tears today than we care to remember. We are now waiting for the biopsy results before the vet can go any further. We are hoping above and beyond all hope that somehow the worst won't happen but it's not looking good. I'm sorry to post such a sad thread but in a strange way it feels as if it helps me process this nightmare as all I can real feel is numb and empty. I will post news as we get it and hopefully it will be good.

Please don’t question your actions in sharing this. It’s absolutely the right thing to do. I really hope Max gets the news you are both praying for but, whichever way it goes, there will be people here to listen. The love of a funny little German car might be a tenuous bond however that doesn’t make it a weak one. Thoughts with you all.

Our mutt is just passed 13 years. Not looking forward to when he’s not here. Hope it goes well big man.

As per the comments of @Erlingtheyounger, definitely no apology needed. The ability to share is one of the things most celebrated about A2OC, community and family, not just chat about Audi’s finest. It has always been what makes this platform stand out from the crowd as it were.

I’m very sorry to read your news Mark and I sincerely hope and pray that there is some good news to come. Thoughts are with you, your wife and Max at this time.

Hi Mark,

A2OC might predominantly be about Audi A2s, but it's also a familial club. Although you've posted something sad and wholly unrelated to A2s, I'm nevertheless glad you felt able to post.

I've had dogs all my life. I currently live with my 6th doggy companion (a ferociously intelligent black-and-white Border Collie called Toby), but I remember the feeling of emptiness and loss that accompanied the passing of the previous 5. They may be of a different species, but they're part of the family. Unfortunately, grief is the price we pay for love.

Jessica, my partner, is a vet. She saves the lives of pets every day, but when she comes home in the evening, it's the stories of heartbreak and loss that I hear, because those are the cases that haunt her thoughts. Yesterday she put 3 dogs to sleep: one contracted parvovirus, another sustained whole-body burns as a result of a dropped cigarette whilst in a cage, and the third was taken for a walk on a scorching pavement in 30-degree heat and died of multiple organ failure due to overheating. The loss of a pet is always difficult, but it's easier when you know that your companion has lived a full and happy life, with a loving family. I'm sure that applies to Max.

With condolences,

Tom

Thanks you all for your heart felt comments. Today i will hopefully find out what the tumour is and whether or not they will operate, i just hope he can be saved as the loss would be unbearable to me and the mrs. Its true that they are part of the family and loved like any human if not more at times, he is cared for, loved and always treated with his favourate foods, i know his life has been the best we can make it but hes 5 and not lived a full dogs life, I realise he's lived it to the full but I suppose I would feel cheated of my future with him.
Anyway I will update you all when I know anymore. Thank you all whether you've commented or not.

Hi, hope Max pulls through, dogs are an important part of our lives and are integrated into the family fold, really wish him all the best?????????

Sending my thoughts too, pet's are such beautiful companions and teach us to respect all living things. All the best wishes for him and his recovery.
Thank you for sharing, as others have said it's a familial place here so it's absolutely the place to post this.

We received the results of the biopsy today and it is sadly a cancerous tumour. We will be speaking to the vet tomorrow who has treated Max as she was off today to find out what if any options Max has, the biggest issue is the tumour has grown into the skull which makes it difficult to operate without serious risk but we will have to see what the vet says next. Not the news we were hoping for but life has it's way of kicking you right where it hurts.

Horrible news Mark. Thoughts with you at what must be a horrible time for you all.

So sorry it wasn’t significantly better news Mark, my thoughts are with you.

Please do keep us updated via this thread and feel free to vent or seek solace from your A2OC family if it helps you, whether publicly or privately.

Take care pal.

Thanks for the responses it is of comfort in some way. I know it's terminal but I don't know if he can keep going without suffering or he will be better off going to sleep without the pain, I sit here in tears writhing this as reality is hitting hard but I have a no doubt pointless hope a miracle will accur and it's all just a big mistake. I thank you all for the support and kind words, it truly means a lot.

He's sleeping in his favourite spot on his chair.

All you can do is follow the advice you’re given I guess. But whatever happens, I’ve no doubt you’ll do the right thing by him as he is clearly the centre of you and your wife’s world, which I’m sure he knows. Try and stay strong through this awful time ?

We have just had a call from our vet to let us know what to expect for Max, she confirmed the tumour is aggressive, his life expectancy is 6 months at best. We will have a few months to pamper our pooch and give him the best last few month he could ever have, so I ask anyone who is attending Audis in the park to come and say hello to our boy and meet the gorgeous and special little man he truly is. We look forward to seeing you all in just over a week.

There isn’t an appropriate emoji for your post Mark, sorry to post again. Suffice to say that I am incredibly sorry to read your news. I’m certain you’ll make the best memories you can in the months to come and I’ll make sure that Max gets a fuss from me if I can indeed attend.
