My long-term project A2Steve

Looks incredible, again admire your determination and commitment.

Out of interest what wet sand grade did you use? I have practiced on a panel before and the wet and dry quality was crap and disintegrated causing heavy scratching despite not over wetting it etc.

What compound do you prefer Steve?

Now that you should ask, I posted this today.

I've gone all grown up and fitted a set of 15 inch A1 alloys on 205/55/15 tyres.

My plan for next year is to fit a votex kit, some 17 inch split rims and possibly a full cream interior.

This will be very much dependant on me getting a breaker in with a votex kit. Its been at least 8 months since I've had one with a votex, they do really seem to be dying out.

Its actually quite dirty in the photo but is hiding it well. The bonnet needs to be repainted due to lacquer peel (which i'll get done soon) but apart from that the bodywork has survived very well for a 160k car.

I'm planning to paint all of the lower plastics in black as soon as the current breaker is out of my garage. They are not bad, but they will appreciate the refresh.

The new wheels suit it a lot better IMHO - when i drove a 1.4TDI with 15" it felt quite floaty though (it had oversized tires - would rub on full lock).

Did excellent work polishing and shining it! Amazing the difference it made.

No rubbing here, but I think thats because the offset is a bit lower on A1 wheels so they poke out further. No floatyness here, but I think that's mainly because its lowered on coilovers as low as it will go and so it feels very planted.

Bargalicious Paul!

Can we get some photos for the Wheel thread?

To celebrate that I no longer need to find another £350 for a new clutch, I dropped my flakey bonnet off to the Paintshop for a respray.

Prices at my local place seem to have gone up, £150 for just the bonnet :-/

The body shop guy was quite surpised though when I asked to leave the bonnet with him...

“What, you mean now??”

And just handed him the bonnet and drove home without one. He found the whole situation brilliant.

The only trouble is now, I’ve got to drive around for a week or so looking like a chav with my dark bonnet

Having owned my 90 since August, she has to date had 6 different interiors fitted and 4 different sets of wheels.

The latest addition to the wheel front is a set of Sport 9 spoke alloys. These are a little different though as they are 16 inch with a lower offset and fitted with a matching set of Maxxis 205/45/16 tyres. They fill the arches well due to the lower offset and combined with my lower suspension seem to suit the car better than the larger 17 inch 9 spokes that came form the factory. The only other set I've seen of these, are the set fitted to Tom (Timmus)'s car.

Next on the list in a complete interior colour change to cream, it's just a matter of waiting for the right breaker to arrive and then it will all be swapped over.

Might this be worth a pop?

Looking good as ever, those 9=spoke 16's really suit the colour and stance ?
