My new Audi 90

Afternoon.
I’d liked the look of A2s for a long time and with used prices being crazy I decided now (well about 8 weeks ago) was the time.
Cars always seemed to appear hundreds of miles away but this felt cheap so I made the journey. I’m going to have fun sorting minor things and would like to do a generic remap.

Welcome to the club! Nice late registered example. Please post .ore photos and let us know the engine code for any advice. I doubt it will have anything that can't be fixed by people on here.

If its an atl you can map to around 115-120 and still get good fuel usage.

According to mot history it does indeed look to be a tdi90
I would be very wary of pushing the engine beyond 110bhp and the torque also increases and the dual mass flywheel is already a fragile component not to mention the gearbox is rated for 250nm and anything above 110bhp will certainly be exceeding the gearboxes limits

Cheers. Paul

Go big or go home Graham :)

Peppa was running 150 bhp (can't remember the torque) was abused by the next owner for 2 years and is still going strong now with Hef following a recomission/rescue. Still original engine and box and now on 160k. The ATL engines are very strong, its only the DMF that's weak.

I'm potentially looking to do a big turbo 90 next and will probably be fitting a solid flywheel from a 75 and see how that works out.

Mine is mapped to 117 BHP and I’m always conscious not to give the gearbox and flywheel too hard a time.

Removing the EGR from the airflow I guess would bump it to 120. I’m after more efficiency though and I don’t drive it hard (and I certainly never use all the power from a standing start).

Extremely surprised by this discovery I was led to believe (when I did my initial research) that the TDI90 was only available for two years up until October/November 2004 so ‘03 up to a ‘54 reg 🙄 So a very rare one indeed.

The atl was introduced in 03 but available until the end of the A2 production in 2005

Go big Steve, go Big. At least it won’t be as noisy, the turbo really takes the noise down.

I'd agreed to buy thinking it was a 75 and then the insurance said it was a 90 and it has rear discs. I'll check the spec sheet shortly to be 100%.

Thanks all for the welcome.
Another visual telltale apart from the red i on the rear badge is the metal air return pipe in front of the engine when you take the bonnet off - the ATL(tdi90) version has a pressure sensor wired into it that is not present in the 75 (where the sensor is in the intercooler).

If it has rear discs and the red "i" on the back then it's 100% a 90. It's emmissions output registered with DVLA of 119g/kg confirms it.
