Chat My next method of getting A2 B…

…see what I did, there?!

Hello all; allow me to introduce myself BEFORE I go straight to the ‘wanted’ section and tell you I’m looking to buy an A2: my name’s Mark Antony and I’m looking to buy an A2.

A potted history: I worked for many years within the VWG UK orbit (between 2004 and 2016, I probably visited every dealer and many of the authorised repairers in their network) and always regretted not having an A2 as a company car (I have the same regret regarding the Mk1 TT!)

The VWG-specialist garage I have used for years (in my former life, I had a 1998 VW T4 Westfalia camper for 10 years and a Polo BlueGT and currently rattle around in an old diesel Altea) is very A2-friendly; the proprietor and his wife have owned a super-high spec one from new and the courtesy car is a very nice black 1.6FSI. I nearly ended up with the latter car and would have loved it, but some crossed wires (my bad!) meant it stayed there.

Soooo…. My diesel clatter crate is now very much on the way out and the garage doesn’t really want to see it again and I’ve decided now is the time.

I’ve joined a couple of A2 Facebook Groups and I‘ve been amazed at the friendliness and resourcefulness of A2 owners. I’ve been saying it’s a cult classic for donkeys’ years and that seems very much to be the case!

Right, Now to write that wanted ad. In the meantime: thanks for reading.

Big cheers, WG

Oh and forgot to say, the FB Groups I already follow are Audi A2 Owners’ Group (very warm and friendly) and Audi A2 Car and Parts Sales and Wants Group (mostly near end-of-life cars!).

Welcome aboard :) There's quite a lot of common membership between ourselves and AA2OG. The other group you mention was also started by a member on here, but sadly they don't post up much these days.

Don't forget to check the cars posted for sale in our Market also. Good luck and enjoy your search!

Welcome- as a reasonably newbie myself, I've been made to feel very welcome, and everyone is very helpful too. I'm still learning and having purchased what can arguably have been called an endoflife one from FB Marketplace, and restoring it to be used as my daily. I did have a 1.6FSI a couple of years ago which was 'sorted' but was told to get rid, as they are the ones not to have, but I understand they have a fanbase of their own. I think they have the pioneering spirit of the design in the engine making them quite valid, and I can vouch (as you probably know) they go like stink! Not sure at the moment which is the best route- a more expensive one thats well sorted, or a rough one to do yourself as you like. I guess its personal! I know a garage would probably suggest the latter! Good luck! :)

Bless me, a "Fanbase" I like that 😊
Mac.

Fanbases are good aren't they? There are fans for the diesels and the petrols and all! I loved the way my 1.6 drove. It only had 86000 on the clock too, and my Sister had spent serious money sorting it out too. Shame the red was peeling (lovely colour).

Well, the unexpected happened and Steve, the proprietor of the garage I’ve used for around 10 years, himself an A2 owner and enthusiast, texted me on Friday night to tell me to come and pick up the FSI which was going to be his courtesy car (a lovely W-reg Polo is being put back on the road to do that, now!).
It’s on c.83k, had two owners prior to the garage and has had loads of work done, having gone in some years ago (!) as a non-runner; inspection of the service history indicates that a number of people have ‘had a go at it’ whereas Steve actually knows what he’s doing.
Even the original dealer sticker and number plates are still on.
Photos when I finally finish cleaning it!
