My VAG-COM port has the wrong wires!

Mike (Skiption01) was fitting cruise control to my car today (thanks Mike!) and naturally needed to reprogram the ECU. But his laptop failed to 'see' the car. On closer inspection the wires going into the vag-com are not only different colours to those in the circuit diagram but there are also not the same number.

On another issue, I was going to speak to Stealth Racing about having a remap. So on Mikes advice I'll speak to them anyway about my vag-com wires.

Any thoughts?

ps. By swapping my ECU into Mike's car he was able to program the cruise control in. Nice lateral thinking. Cheers.

Some interesting feedback from Mike. It seems I have a 2001 vag-com specification port. How very bizarre! I need to investigate whether any other parts of my car are 2001. Reminds me of the 1980s when cut-n-shut cars were all the rage.

I was considering getting a remap done, but I wonder if this will be possible, having a hybrid ECU and vag-com?

An update:

I returned my car to the garage today, for them to investigate why I get no signal to the vag-com.

The conclusion was that there is a fault with the stereo. When they disconnected it, the vag-com port work OK. It doesn't explain why the wiring is from a MY 2001. But since it works, I'm not too bothered.

The technician said that it looked like liquid had spilt over the stereo and moisture gathered on the CAN BUS. With the cup holders above the stereo this seems plausible.

It does seem odd though that despite this fault the stereo continues to works.

So, my next task is to find a second hand Concert stereo. Anyone?

That's a fudge of an answer!

The reason why your port will work when the radio is disconnected is that it is the hub (along with the clocks) of the CAN bus system and when it is unplugged, the CAN system (which over-rides the K-line diagnostics at your port) is disabled, as the A2 only really uses CAN for infotainment.

If the radio still works, just get a set of removal keys for those times when the car needs scanning.

Cheers,

Mike

Sounds like I'm being given the run-around by the garage :(

So what next? They reset all the fault codes. So do I just drive around for a while and get someone to re-read any fault codes?
