Nearly an owner.......and now I am!

Hi all

Following my earlier thread below I have now bought a 2002 1.4SE petrol in silver, working OSS, Concert 2, aircon, 76,000m, and pretty much FASH for about 2.5k. I just missed a similar car (2005 with lower mileage and leather, but at nearly twice the price) and had to console myself!

The car is in pretty good shape with a couple of small bodywork paint-only blemishes, but everything works and I've enjoyed driving it the first couple of days. I find the 1.4 petrol is a bit sluggish unless the revs are kept up, now thinking about a 1.6FSI......the engines do seem to offer more trouble though, and this worries me a little.

I couldn't wait for the 'holy grail' to appear(leather, OSS, heated sports seats, lumbar adjustment, DIS, winter pack etc) but am keeping a watching brief!

I like the smooth and quiet ride and the very good sound from the stereo, the general feel of quality in the cabin and the good visibility(apart from the pillars).

The aircon controls and the drivers door legends are badly worn and my first 'upgrade' is to replace these with the German replacement transfers, and a new set of carpets. The second might be a Dension Gateway for the stereo to allow iPhone/USB stick music playback.

I don't think the work and expense in terms of retro fitting DIS and heated seats etc is really worth the aggro, and I will keep that eye on the classifieds.......

But I like the car very much, and begin to understand the dedication of the owners here to their cars!

Hi.

Congrats, a very sensible thing to do, to start with less than optimal rather than waiting for the perfect one.

Now you can get to know what you like an don't like about the car and so when you go for your "keeper" it will be a good match for you.

I just passed a DIS cluster to a fellow member for £35, so the conversion is not as costly or as difficult as you might think (A TDI would be much more expensive, due to the shortage of DIS clusters

I sourced everything for £85 including the loom, stalk and cluster!!!.

But I hope you get to the spec you want, it will be worth the wait.

Yes, I think you did! Simon, right?

Good for you. Let me know how you get on with the EML issue etc, or anything else you find. Any comments so far?

Oh and if you want to pass it on at any point, please give me first refusal, it was pretty close to my ideal spec.

I expect there will be another one along in a minute(here's hoping).
