Need help or advise please

Was going to report some good news as on the way to work this morning since installing the new battery no warning lights came on
But on the way home was the same old engine warning, abs and traction control lights came back
Not sure how worried I should be with MOT coming up in two weeks as being an older car, I read in an earlier comment it won't fail it?

The oil leak also I'm not too sure how bad but one mechanic said it was just weeping from the sump seal and dip stick seal.
Although the same guy said it won't pass an MOT before recommending I put it on ebay for spares and repairs

It isn't leaving anything on my drive anymore since getting the cam carrier resealed, but needs topping up every few weeks

The car clearly needs checking over professionally before you decide on the way forward.

Unless you're prepared to travel further, it's probably best to look for an independent Audi specialist close to you. Google throws up the VW Service Centre in Gosport https://vwsc.co.uk/ as one option. I have no personal experience of them, but in general independent specialists offer significantly better value than main dealers.

Why not ask them to check the car over and give you a condition report? And if you want to go ahead with getting the car an MOT, ask them to do the work for you before they carry out the test?

I'm not sure where you are with @herx doing a VCDS scan for you, and of course we still know very little about your A2. All cars need to be maintained, and your ABS and traction control lights are likely to be an easy fix, but your oil leak may (or may not) indicate a serious problem.

Will hopefully be heading up to visit herx on Sunday for a scan if all goes well

@Mark F is on his way home now after a scan with VCDS lite, clearing of all fault codes, a quick spin and a re-scan and clearing again.

The pixels of the half-DIS screen have been damaged and it is unreadable. On idle the (warm) engine sounds very noisy to me (mine as a comparison, I am not a mechanic).

I will share the fault codes that came back the second time, but if the forum thinks the historic codes will be useful let me or @Mark F know:
1 Fault Found:
17604 - Oxygen (Lambda) Sensor Heater Circuit: B1 S1: Electrical Malfunction
P1196 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent
1 Fault Found:

6 Faults Found:

Thanks again for your help was very much appreciated
The abs and traction control lights stayed off and have remained that way

This is a video to give an idea of the engine noise
Any feedback on possible causes would be very helpful thanks

Just to report about the ABS and traction control lights returning again
Just started looking through the VCDS fault codes Herx did for me on Sunday for a possible lead

Was reading that someone had the 01314 ABS light pop up after tinkering with his EGR valve which reminded me a garage found a P0402 EGR "A" Flow Excessive Detected a month ago doing a regular OBD scan

Will keep searching

After the free pre mot health check at Skoda they also said it's the lateral acceleration sensor causing the abs light
£834 apparently so declined and will sorn it on my drive for the time being

This may be what you need:

Sorry I can't be absolutely certain, but at some point Audi switched from having two sensors to one combined one.

Fitting instructions are pretty simple and can be found here:

It would be worth checking out what sensors your car actually has before making any purchase of a replacement.

After fitting a replacement sensor, you need access to a fully registered copy of VCDS to set it up.

Thanks for looking into it for me will try and find out which one it needs

They left the passenger side panel off so guessing that it must be one or both of these

It looks like the refurbished eBay part I linked to earlier is indeed what you want. At £60 at least it won't break the bank. And they include Royal Mail first class shipping in the price, so you'd hopefully be able to get it fitted before your MOT expired.

Thanks! just ordered should get to me by Monday

Hi just wanted to report the good news as my car passed it's MOT today!
I fitted the lateral acceleration sensor at the weekend and took my car back up to Winchester to get some help again from @herx joined also by @PlasticMac who went through on their vcds to set up and check the new sensor, which was very much appreciated!
Still had a engine warning light on but didn't fail because of it's age, guessing due to the 02 sensor needing replacement
The oil leak is not excessive so was only advisory for now
