I've heard rumors about modifications on 1.4 TDI engine in summer 2003.... any news about????

Mauro,
OpenSky, 1.4TDI

My local dealer confirmed that there would be a 90 bhp 1.4 TDi this Spring/Summer. There is no sign of a 1.9 or new 2.0 TDi version, as "it doesn't need it".

I understand that this uprated 1.4 TDi will co-incide with the availability of a Multitronic or Tiptronic gearbox option, as a friend of mine has been talking to them about such a car and this is what they have indicated.

Almost certainly a chip enhancement as all of the Vw Audi group engine differences of tune are. Why do you think they have persevered with the 1.8T petrol?

Because, until they recently downrated the 1.8T and uprated the V5, it was faster, more economical, cheaper, due to low end torque a better drive and lower tax liability. Ever wondered why VW V5s are so rare and Audi/Skoda/Seat do not use it?

2002 1.4 Petrol SE, silver with climate control.
Why are all the A2s in Lichfield are silver ? ? ?

The V5 is used in SEAT Toledo's - was the 150bhp and now the 170bhp. Nice car for the money-sat nav as standard etc.

Steve - 2002 1.4SE petrol, Silver, black/black interior, Then an identical replacement 2003 A2. Now a Toyota Corolla 1.6 T-Spirit

Slightly off topic, but I'd concur that the 1.8T is a cracking engine. I think in the A4 the 1.8T or TQ is the best package, much nicer than the harsh 2.0 (though I've not tried the FSI). Good economy and useful performance.

I like the idea of a Multitronic A2 - though I'm not sure what sort of weight penalty this would mean on an A2. Tried it in an A4 and it worked a treat.

A product update for the A2 1.4 including a TDI 90bhp spec was sent to dealers in Sep 2001 (also had FSI). Both were planned to come in Q2 2002 !
Same update showed the 'clutchless manual' auto gearbox being dropped from development and the possibility of a 'real' auto being introduce in 2002.
